I am a dunce regarding dolls - don't know why she has come up with baby annabel - is it worth the money or should I just get any baby doll?

Why do the doll's clothes cost more than my clothes? Can I get cheaper ones anywhere?

i want one! but my mother bought ds aged2 a dolly from the charity shop and knitted it some clothes, much cheaper than shop bought ones. also newborn nappies are cheaper than the baby doll ones you buy and premature babyclothes are cheaper as well.

go on get one

Aero · 12/11/2006 21:04

Dd has loved her baby Annabel for the last four years. I definitely recommend it. Much cheaper to buy prem baby clothes for her though - we've never bought and actual Baby Annabel clothes.

softmusk · 12/11/2006 21:11

my little girl loves her and my dd2 who 10 months tries to nick her dummy and talks back to her so gets lots of use in our house i like it to and caught dh quite happily sitting feeding it after dd1 had given it to him what a great picture that made

nikkie · 12/11/2006 21:20

We have one but she is never switched on so could just be any old doll.

cece · 12/11/2006 21:22

If you do get one I would recommend a rechargeable battery thing

TooTickyTheLittleRedHen · 12/11/2006 21:23

Baby dolls are great butthe ones that take batteries make me cringe.

My dd is 11 and has only just relinquished baby A. She used to come on holiday with us every year. My youngest has never bothered. I guess it depends on the child.

Linnet · 12/11/2006 21:43

We bought baby Annabel for our dd1 one christmas and she played with it at first then barely looked at it.

Then dd2 came along and she now plays with Baby Annabel all the time, so money well spent in our house.

Just bought Baby Annabelle via mailorder - Empire Stores. Go to the Sale section, then the Autumn Sale section, then Kidzone. I also did a google search for a discount coupon - got an additional £15 off for being a new customer and so the doll cost £18.99. When it arrived, a mini portable TV (about 5") screen was included as a welcome gift!!!

Peridot30 · 12/11/2006 22:24

My dd is getting baby annabel from her gran this Christmas. Bit pricy but dd is a girlie girl and loves her dolls and prams. Baby Annabel has a few different features and thankfully not like baby born who 'pees' and 'poos' in nappy.

WhizzBangCaligula · 12/11/2006 22:28

Toys R Us are doing an offer where if you spend over £40 on her and her stuff, you get a free high chair (or something - maybe it's a car-seat, I wasn't paying attention).

Doesn't sound as impressive as that empire stores offer though.

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 13/11/2006 07:51

No no no that Godawful noise!!! Get a Baby Born instead, quiet and it can go in the bath and have a really good scrub (but hide the food/poo sachet)
Top tip for any baby doll is to buy it a washable nappy, it's the best investment in 'clothes' for it. Here's a couple of places you can get them:
Dolly Allsorts
Kiddymania

hulababy · 13/11/2006 08:31

DD got baby Annabel when she was 20 months old. She is now 4y7m and baby Annabel is still going strong. Have to say that she doesn't tend to have her turned on for the noises, etc. nowadays much. Seemed expensive at the time, but she had falen in love with the doll in ELC and never wanted to let her go when we went in. But has stood test of time so actually reasonable value re play time used.

I don't buy proper Baby Annabel clothes - the tiny baby ranges fit just fine (the ones that say up to 7.5lbs)

hulababy · 13/11/2006 08:32

DD does now want Baby Born through, but at 4 and a half not sure I can justify £40 on a new doll!

mateychops · 13/11/2006 08:33

DD got a Baby Annabelle 2 yrs ago, and still going strong, still loves it.

bobbynog · 13/11/2006 09:02

DD got baby A for her third birthday - loves it to death, but struggles to carry her around as she is quite big and heavy.

mummydoc · 13/11/2006 09:04

my dds love ours to bits, though we have to switch it off as i am sure it is broken as can never get it to sleep despite trying all the things that are supposed to work including hideaously expensive bed thing with annoying musical lullaby,

FatThighs · 13/11/2006 19:04

wow! Thank you so much fort he feedback - feel very well equipped now to make my choices.

I love mumsnet - esp. for things like this, feel very lucky!

My LO loves hers. You could probably buy it clothes in Primark or such a place, plus quite a lot of clothes by other doll manufacturers seem to fit. My mum knitted a lot of clothes for it.

FatThighs · 13/11/2006 19:11

oh primark - fantastic idea!

There are some really good cheap clothes for baby annabelle on ebay too. Just got dd a bratz outfit for her BA for er... think it was about £3 cant quite remember now, definitely no more than a fiver, including p+p!

anniebear · 13/11/2006 20:31

wombat1

what was the offer code? or were did you find it?

Thanks

CrocodileKate · 13/11/2006 20:40

Just don't leave it out in the rain!
Ours will only burp now.

DimpledThighs · 15/11/2006 20:10

So if anyone else is interested I wen online to buy and came to £43 - so I got a free high chair.

That is all she will be getting this christmas but am pretty sure it will keep her going all day.

So the verdict seems to be BA is the best..
