ok, so we dont celebrate all these occasions, but they aare all very consumer orientated now. aaaaand thus very very expensive. and the kids certainly dont need any toys or plastic crap.
so i celebrate it the way i want to, and stuff anyone elses expectations.

have i missed any celebration out? chinese new yeaaar?

what's eid???

notasheep · 31/10/2006 23:12

i have stopped sending Christmas cards and have become unpopular as a result

moondog · 01/11/2006 00:17

I've never sent Christmas cards for years and people still speak to me.

I refuse to buy any Halloween crap (the only people who benefit are hellholes like Tesco) and also ban people from giving my children cards and presents.

Contrary to impression created,am fairly jolly soul...

Stitch, is Eid really as bad as Christmas/Easter now?

nappyaddict · 01/11/2006 01:12

eid is a muslim holiday.it is the celebration at the end of ramadan the month of fasting between the end of september and october i think.

moondog · 01/11/2006 08:48

Blackduck · 01/11/2006 08:53

ASDA even sell eid adn dwali 'advent' calenders!

tarantula · 01/11/2006 09:04

you forgot Maothers day, Fathers days Grandparents day, St Patricks day, St Georges Day, Bonfire Night ermmmmm .

the problem with many of our festivals is that we forget that these used to come at the end of a period fasting such as Lent or Advent. easter eggs tasted so good as kids becuase we hadnt had sweets for 6 1/2 weeks.

Miaou · 01/11/2006 09:54

here Moondog

I think it might appeal

stitchthezenmaster · 01/11/2006 12:32

im fraaid sao. eid is jusat aas bad.
worse sometimes, because you feel that you should be making more of a fuss of 'our own customs' iyswim.
so we aend up doing aas consumeristic stuff on eid, as christmasa.
i bought those eid dvent calenders one year, but just like the christmas ones, thekids eat them all in a week, so we staty clearf of them now
