We are hosting both sets of parents and dp's brother this year for dd's first Christmas and our first Christmas in this house. We will be cooking dinner and I'm just wondering what others do?

Lunchtime or dinnertime or sort of mid-afternoon meal?

Turkey, duck, goose, veggie or other?

What trimmings etc do you have?

Christmas pudding and brandy butter or other dessert?

Any tips or ideas gratefully received .

we do mid afternoon - roast something - last year I did fillet of beef as get bored by turkey - did it with some roast potatoes, some potatoes dauphinoise, carrots, cauliflower cheese (all v. calorie laden I know but delish), and of course the ubiquitous sprouts.

Pud - we had a Xmas pud and some choccie extravaganza I had made.

This year I will have a month old baby but still doing it at our house as has space for parents and my bro and his wife so my DAd is doing a lamb dish, I will let him get on with it whilst sipping Cava on the sofa!

We always do dinner mid afternoon. Spend time with the children opening pressies etc, then get cooking. everything prepared the night before.
I ususally do soup, pate, turkey and gammon with trimmigs. Christmas pud and white sauce and fruit salad

Can we just come to your house hauntymandy? Sounds yummy.

I think that we will have turkey, which dp can stuff if he wants, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, roast parsnips (my fave), carrots and sprouts. Might do some of those little sausage things to. I will have a veggie alternative, prob a nut roast type thing. I don't like Christmas pud so we will probably have one but I will have a mince pie or three instead.

We do

Breakfast- taost and tea about 9am
Lunch/ Snack- crackers, cheese and pate about 11-12ish.
Dinner about 4pm, I do a crown roast rather than the full on bird, cooks quicker and less waste.

FIl is diabetic so we have to space out the meals and stick to fairly normal timetable.

we eat 1-2ish as sson as possible really!
starter-prawns/pate/melon
Main-turkey/beef, as many different vegs as I can come up with (I don't eat the meat)
Pudding-Xmas pud/trifle/\Xmas Cake

We have a lazy lunch- all the veg is roasted so no saucepans to wash! Aiming to eat about 2ish this year. We never have dessert, as fella doesn't like them and seems pointless just for me. Cold meats, pickles etc in the evening then....can't wait!!!

We have breakfast while the kids are opening pressies...just toast or bacon butties

Lunch is at about 1 ish.....
noone likes turkey so we usually have a chicken...
Roast chicken dinner with trimmings
Then christmas cake (noone likes xmas pudding)
I usually do a fruit cake too and the kids have a bit of their chocolate they inevitably get in stockings

This year I am making a buffet supper....
Left over chicken...dips...homemade sausage rolls
Lots of nibbles (cheese and crackers)
I then have some lovely recipes I have been collecting for total pig out....
Chocolate gateux
Truffles
Peppermint creams
hmmmmmmm roll on xmas!!!!!!!!!!

My MIL and BIL live next door and last year we had christmas dinner at 3ish after eating toast and chocolates all morning MIL did the turkey and stuffing and we did the chipolatas, potatoes and veg. Afterwards we had hot mice pies. Mmmmmmm

Skribble · 30/10/2006 22:02

I have a deal with MIL, I do Christmas day and she does Boxing day as I work on boxing day, great to come in to dinner all done.

Any more tips for making it all easier.

I do a crown roast or similar so I don't have to start cooking at 6am. I keep threatening to do pizza. I love roast veg so I might do more of that this year and less pots.

Breakfast about 9am - bacon butties / bagels

Lunch about 2-3pm - turkey, stuffing, roasties, parsnips, carrots, sprouts, white sauce, peas, cauli, cranberry sauce, lashings of gravy, pigs in blankets
Pudding - some chocolate dessert or mince pies and cream

Tea - cold meat, pickles, salad

This is not just food - this is MandyBoo's food!!
