Snow Glow Elsa!

Bought for the hype. And totally rubbbish reaction.

Equally, Furby Boom and her IPad!!

Seriously, why do people care what other people buy their children for Christmas?? I genuinely don't understand it. You have no idea of their circumstances. As long as she OP isn't saying to her daughter 'you've been really really good so Father Christmas got you an iPad. So and so at school has been really naughty and doesn't deserve presents so he/she only got pyjamas and a satsuma. Make sure you go to school and rub it in their face' then I have no idea what the issue is.

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 28/12/2014 16:02

I don't care that a 4 year old was given an iPad (that she gave a rubbish reaction to getting!) people can give their own kids what they like - I give mine stuff my friends would no doubt be horrified over.

I would be worried all the time that it would get broken - but that is only because presents in our house are given unconditionally, I don't want to have to impose loads of rules afterwards, which I know I would have to do if I had given something breakable and expensive to my girls when they were 4. My niece got a hudl2 this year - she stood on it in the afternoon in her plastic Elsa shoes... my sister is trying to find somewhere to repair the screen for less than £70.

DisappointedOne · 30/12/2014 19:05

Nope. Can't think of a single reason that a 4 year old would NEED an iPad of their own. What next, their own kitchen knives?

curiousgeorgie · 30/12/2014 19:07

Wow... That is a brand new opinion! Thank god you came along when you did.

iPads are great for 4 year olds! I can't think of a single reason why you wouldn't!

You can download educational apps/games, books, they can draw on them, watch films, . especially great for long car journeys!
I used to think the same until we had to travel and instead of taking all the usual books, drawing paper and pens etc for the journey we just took the iPad and it did the same job. My kids use mine so I haven't bought them one but they are great for kids.

But that's not what this thread is about...
Anyway...Snow Glow Elsa. My niece has one and I don't think she plays with it either. We have the Singing Elsa doll from the Disney Store that sings a bit of Let It Go. Her arms glow blue HmmShock but she's been quite a hit.

She's a pretty doll. She looks a lot more like the film Elsa than all the other dolls.

ThePrincessWhoSatOnTheSprout · 30/12/2014 19:32

The iPad thing makes me laugh. There are LOADS of educational apps to download. LOADS. Lots are free. They don't have to play games on them all the time. DS got interested in our iPad about age 4. It's how he learned where the bones are in the body, how to tell the time, all about seasons and the weather, spelling, basic maths, flags of the world, how money works etc. As well as playing all the various Angry Birds, TOCCA, Lego etc games. They are a very good educational tool if you want them to be.

Yes, my 4 year old loves the iPad. Doesn't mean she needs one of her own though, does it?!

Notso · 30/12/2014 20:39

My 2 year old has had no interest in his Peppa pig stuff, despite being really excited when he opened it. Mr Tumble's spotty bag however has not left his side.
My 4 year has loved everything we got him, same with my 10 year old.
My 14 year old liked everything except a last minute twitch handbag.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 30/12/2014 21:53

Nope. Can't think of a single reason that a 4 year old would NEED an iPad of their own. What next, their own kitchen knives?

But your 4 year old uses one...

You see for me its not the cost £££ issue its the screen time a young child gets, as adults we spend so much in front of screens.....why expose a child to more of it?

I find it odd people site cost as issue when for me its been cost to childhood.

However I think they have their place and times when they come into own esp sn children, long hospital stays, long car journeys, and in all sorts of ways.

I just find it really strange to voraciously protest but admit your own is exposed...

RoundRobinSparkles · 30/12/2014 22:21

What difference does it make? iPads can be useful to a 4 year old. If someone can afford to buy them their own then why not? The kiddy versions are shit. You have to pay for extra games and their batteries run out really quickly.

As for comparing it to a set of kitchen knives - that's just fucking stupid! I can't think why a four year old would need a kitchen knife and an iPad isn't dangerous! Hmm

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/12/2014 22:28

Shame on you for getting a 4 year old an iPad Shock Angry

I hand-crafted an educational tablet out of goat's poo and organic macaroni powered by a solar panel woven from nail clippings. My DCs never played with it. They were quite happy to be let out to see daylight and to get their new clogs and a slightly chewed pine cone. Between them.

I will probably give the artisan tablet to the local Alms House. Or sell it on Etsy.

Grin Dd prefers the iplaid....

Loom woven in charity tartan and powered by static mung bean shavings....

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 31/12/2014 08:50

why make mean fun of other people's opinions, that is all they are... opinions.

We all differ - thank goodness.

whimsical1975 · 31/12/2014 09:46

Ok, so here's a sobering thought... I have a friend whose TWO year old was diagnosed with cancer... he was in hospital for months on end, he wasn't allowed to play outside nor with other children because his immune system was so low from all his chemo... he was given an iPad... he had loads of educational apps downloaded and it gave him alot of joy during an absolutely horrendous time.

Now I'm not saying that only a life-threatening illness warrants an iPad, but what I am saying is that every single family have their own reasons for allowing their children to own certain things, reasons which you know nothing about! Be careful before you find fault in another parents' gifts to their children as you know nothing about their circumstances.

I don't recall an opinion on gift choices being asked for so perhaps it's best not to offer one....

DisappointedOne · 31/12/2014 11:39

My DD helps me a lot in the kitchen. I suspect she'd love her own set of knives. However, as she's 4 and I'm an adult I know it's not the best idea in the world. Affording it isn't the point. What will they give next year? An iPhone on an unlimited contract??

RoundRobinSparkles · 31/12/2014 14:05

I bet when she helps you in the kitchen you don't give her a sharp knife to do the chopping, do you? That would be stupid!

DisappointedOne · 31/12/2014 22:53

I most certainly do give her a sharp knife. I also supervise her appropriately with it. Just as I do when she's using the family ipad.

Falconwolf101 · 08/02/2015 20:26

Hmmm, my Lyra's grow your own cactus kit, I think! It's growing steadily, but to be honest, I more bought it because I was curious, so it's growing in our bedroom ;)

Dancergirl · 11/02/2015 23:05

Totally agree, it's too much too soon.

And what people buy their children DOES affect others when you have children round to play and they're bored without any electronic devices Sad

woollytights · 15/02/2015 00:18

I realise this reply is a bit late OP but I was referring to the person posting before me remarking on what a lot of presents she'd had! Sorry, should have been clearer in my reply who it was actually directed at. Not that you'll probably look at this again now!
