anyone else dreading going downstairs because of the mess

DT opened mountains of presents yesterday and then started playing with them

so toys everywhere - all paper and packaging in the bin

we went out in the morning and came home late last night

the mess of stuff everywhere is messing with me liking to keep the living room tidy

do I go downstairs and make them tidy it all away into their bedroom or let them have one more day of chaos?

We are just sitting amongst the mess in the livingroom, if i keep looking at my iPad i can't see it! The kitchen was ok though, I done that last night!

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 26/12/2014 09:46

The kitchen...oh god...THE KITCHEN - you actually have a kitchen then??

Mine appears to be hidden somewhere under pots, pans, dishes, food containers, empty bottles and god only knows what else.

Elfina · 26/12/2014 09:48

I've managed to clear a space around the kettle, and beat a path to the fridge. That will have to do until DH gets his arse out of bed.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2014 09:48

Kitchen is spotless.Everywhere else is not.

celestialsquirrels · 26/12/2014 09:55

We tidied wrappingbpaper etc as we went, having saved a vast box from JL to put it all in. Xmas Lunch is no worse than a usual Sunday lunch with added christmas crackers - why is it still a bomb site 24hrs later? Everything was clean here within 30 mins of lunch ending...

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2014 09:56

Oh dear celestial we are all terrible slatterns in that case. Sad

Ledkr · 26/12/2014 09:58

I'm still in bed. Dh has gone down to clear up. It's his penance for making me sit in a car for two hrs to visit in laws!
I have tea and shortbread fingers, yummy.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 26/12/2014 09:58

Nope. We tidied up regularly throughout the day. All their presents are in a big box each in the living room. Paper and boxes are in the recycling bin.

Though I can't cope with too much mess and stuff everywhere plus they're both under 3 so it's easier to keep on top of it all!

AuntieStella · 26/12/2014 09:59

Very unusually for me, the kitchen is under total control.

There is safe passage via a cleared route across the sitting room.

Evolutionary approach here, moving a few bits from time to time.

anbo22 · 26/12/2014 10:26

Wrapping paper in bin bags waiting to go in the recycling, presents piled up in the living room, and I'm playing lego batman as ds1 has got bored of the PS3. Still wondering where we are going to put everything Grin

LeBearPolar · 26/12/2014 10:31

DS is poorly Sad - came on at the end of yesterday so we had a lovely day overall but then he crashed at about 6-ish. So I am pottering around straightening things up while he is curled up in bed snoozing. Feels strange - normally he would be stuck into his huge Lego set and sneaking chocolate every time my back's turned. I miss it!

But washing is on, kitchen is straight, about to start putting away some of the presents in their new homes.

Bit worried about the mountain of food we still have - no-one had much appetite last night!

HerrenaHarridan · 26/12/2014 10:32

Kitchen is tidy. Living room is full of toys today don't have a home yet.

I tidy as I go while cooking, I have to!
I find it so stressful by the end other wise, not being able to put down hot dishes because there's no space on the side, so your juggling hot roasting dishes and trying to push thinks out of the way that then spill aaaarggh!
So empty packing goes straight in the bin, which is easily accessible. Non used up stuff gets put away when I got to that cupboard/ fridge again or at the end of each stage.

I also clear draining board before I start and run a bowl of hot soapy water. Everything gets rinsed and things that need more than rinsing get stacked NEXT to the sink with a scoop of the hot soapy water.

I'm still a slattern in most other ways but I've finally taught myself how to keep the kitchen tidy while cooking.

My bedroom on the other hand is generally where I hide the mess so the rest of the house appears tidy. Still working on that. Xmas Blush

Ledkr · 26/12/2014 10:50

I'm loving celestials mention of her "JL* box as the answer to keeping a pristine christnas home!!

Openup41 · 26/12/2014 11:24

My house is tidy. I cannot abide by long term mess.

I cleared away wrapping paper as my dc opened their toys. Their toys have a home and packaging is in recycled bin.

We had 10 people to dinner. Dh and I cleared and washed up as we went along. So much easier than leaving it to pile up. Also all close family so we did not feel awkward at being in kitchen whilst they relaxed.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2014 11:28

Ledkr our box was only from Argos. Sad That must be where I am going wrong.

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 26/12/2014 12:02

My house (kitchen, dining, living room etc.) is superficially tidy.

However, we only moved house 2 weeks ago so 3 rooms are stuffed with unopened boxes and the doors are firmly shut! Stuff has been in storage for 8 months so I've forgotten what the contents are for most of the boxes.

I know I've lost at least 1 Xmas pressie for DH in there somewhere.

I had a 'day off' opening boxes yesterday but have re-started on them today with a box marked 'kitchen'.

Funnily enough, I really didn't feel like unwrapping Christmas presents yesterday. Wonder why??? Xmas Hmm

Anyone need some large boxes to store their Xmas crap in, (with free contents)? Anyone?? Xmas Wink

HollyJollyXmas · 26/12/2014 12:41

Our house is OK. Managed to clear up as we went along yesterday, and put most of the DC's presents into two big boxes and put in their rooms. Most organised we have ever been. Very unlike us!

DH also did all the washing up and tidied the kitchen after dinner yesterday while I drank sherry and watched Miranda Grin.

DS has managed to lose a thirty quid voucher that was a gift somewhere, though. And our outside bins are overflowing, and binmen not due until next Friday. And I keep standing on stray bits of lego from a brand new extortionately expensive Lego minecraft set that seems to have already been strewn around the house.

Oh well. I'm still in PJs and drinking coffee. Sod it!

Fcukfifa · 26/12/2014 14:35

Hurrah house is sorted, I did what I do best and move things about in the living room to make it look tidy. Also hid a few Xmas decs away but have been eyeing the tree for a while now.

Oh did the kitchen, our oven broke half way through Xmas dinner yesterday and everything went to pot after that!

Sat with a cup of tea now and had a slice of M&S (see I'm posh too! Grin)! Snowbombe cake. First time I've relaxed for days

hyperhops · 26/12/2014 22:08

oh, god I would sooooo love to get the tree down now! am going to have to blitz toys etc tomorrow...currently sat in chaos of lounge drinking wine and doing my best to ignore said chaos.
with 6 dc I can assure you it would take more than a single box - JL or otherwise - to calm the mayhem and mess of Christmas here!
Cant wait for decs to come down and to buy my first bunch of daffodils of the year.....Hmm

GodRestYeMerrySlatterns · 27/12/2014 13:23

Xmas Smile at JL box.

Chaos here still. Not too worried, as long as it is sorted by the time I go back to work.

BearFeet · 27/12/2014 17:35

I'm straight. Well as straight as I can be. Smellies, chocs, underwear put away. Toys still in living room but I can live with that for a while yet.

God it feels good Grin
