Time - it's the ISS, passes over regularly, you can get times from the NASA website. Pretend it's Santa and wow the DCs! (well not mine).

OhHolyChildOfGallifrey · 24/12/2014 19:12

I went to my sisters so DC could see it with their cousins...we were all out on the street shouting and waving! DS1 (9) said "they kept saying he's fake at school but now I've seen him with my own eyes!" He was very excited! Xmas Grin

YES! It was bloody brilliant! We could see it from our garden. Realised I was waving and shouting Santa and close to (very tired) tears when I looked at my DP staring at me like I was mad! My DD loved it and I'm so glad I stood in the cold waiting so I could tell DP and DD when to come out! Really made my Christmas.

It was amazing! We were in a pub and went out side at 17.22 on teh dot and it was just coming in from the west. Lovely clear night and we watched it all the way across for a good couple of minuytes. I was amazed at how easy it was to spot and how impressive it was.

Was it just random that is was coming over the UK on Xmas eve? Does it come past often?

dancingwitch · 24/12/2014 23:37

We went out at 17:21 and it was quite cloudy. In the west in the distance, something went over through the cloud so we told the children that was it & they got very excited. We stayed out to do reindeer food & then the ISS went past straight overhead & much higher than I expected. So we told the DC that that was santa and the previous thing must have been a plane and they looked at bit Confused but then things got worse as 5yo DD then spotted a satellite in the east so wanted to know if that was Santa too. I came up with some waffle about having to get to every child so having to criss cross the skies so I think that that worked, especially as we then came in & watched their portable north pole message which the DC completely fell for.
It is so magical being able to create such fun for them.

My dad and I decided to walk to the top of their rd as my parents live in bit of a hole. The kids were excited but ny eldest has started to get skeptical in her old 8 years. I was worried I'd miss it but we didn't. My eldest was so excited and gave us technology lesson about what parts we were actually seeing Grin the youngest who's 3 was confused because she expected more detail. My middle daughter was confused that there were no presents in the house when we went back! Even my 2 year old was excited but he wasn't well enough.

We told them it had been on the news that he needed to make a diversion that would take him early over our way.

For whoever asked ISS laps the earth every 90 minutes and can be seen over most of the country bit it depends on conditions too. you can get apps to tell you when it's due.

confuddledDOTcom · 25/12/2014 22:45

world not country.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 25/12/2014 23:10

Mine had been tracking Santa on NORAD all day and knew he was over Asia. So we admired the ISS which, TBF, is pretty mind boggling in it's own right and deserves to be admired.

docpeppa · 25/12/2014 23:15

No I was gutted, had an alarm set on my phone for 5.15 and stayed in the garden for about 15 minutes!

slippermaiden · 25/12/2014 23:23

No but we did see the space station. We had been tracking santa so we knew he was somewhere over India!
