Christmas food delivery came and over 50% was some very odd substitutions, so I need to do a supermarket shop tomorrow Confused what time of day is the quietest? Dreading this... Shopping with two two year olds at christmas! Please give advice!

I would say Waitrose either an hour before closing or be there for opening in the morning would be your best bet. Or maybe even Tesco late this eve - 9 or 10pm. They should be restocking by then after initial "after work" rush.

I had a Waitrose delivery this morning with thankfully only 5 substitutions. However, the delivery chap told me that Waitrose, Sainsburys & I think Tesco have had horrendous problems this last weekend with saturday/sunday orders either not happening at all or with huge number of subs. All down to some kind of computer issue (isn't it alwaysHmm). Apparently Waitrose will all be delivered by tomorrow & those affected will have their shopping bill covered.

I usually shop with Ocado but it angers me that they cancel all regular delivery slots over Christmas - despite my paying every month for a delivery pass & placing a weekly order with them. Treating regular bread & butter customers this way is not cool IMO. Am switching back to Waitrose from now on.

8.30pm last night was quiet.

just got back from Waitrose, busy in the aisles but no queues. Quite a lot of things sold out though.

LeBearPolar · 23/12/2014 17:43

We have done ours in several goes and always scan as you shop - no queues at all and managed to get everything we wanted.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 23/12/2014 17:54

Yes, we scanned ourselves too, keeps the DCs engaged as well as saving time. Luckily they had everything we went for but there were a lot of empty spaces on shelves.

Another vote for Ocado, ok £10 delivery is expensive but no substitutions and arrived bang on time this morning.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/12/2014 18:06

Yeap, over £200 ocado shop came earlier with no substitutions.

I love waitrose as a shop but their online is not great ime. 3 years ago they left half my shopping in the store.

For me the £10 charge is worth it and I've still done my usual ocado shops - had one on saturday for example.

Will pop to m&s tomorrow but only for some nibbles and a couple of puddings if they look nice but if it is crazy busy I won't bother.

I think the 23rd is normally the busiest day for supermarkets or it used to be according to my friendly cashier in waitrose.

I'm going tomorrow afternoon. Haven't got any food yet. How they have done turkeys left ...

HoHonutty · 23/12/2014 19:55

Hope they have some turkeys left.

LightastheBreeze · 24/12/2014 09:20

Waitrose usually have their turkeys half price in the afternoon. In our large store people usually start gathering quite early in the afternoon for turkey reductions, which iirc happen about 3 o'clock

Tesco delivery here - no subs. Comes from a stock warehouse though, not a shop-floor picked one.
