Apologies if this one's already been done, but with a week to go I need a few more presents for my DS who is 5.5. He is my middle child and hard to buy for as he doesn't really play with toys. Just wanted some inspiration really!

My DS is 6. Family present is an Xbox for everyone.

DS only:
Batman hair gel & shower gel set
Toy bow and arrow set
Dr Who hoody and t-shirt
Lego set
Croods DVD
Dr Who figures from BBC website
Simpsons annual

Iggity · 18/12/2014 23:23

DS is same age. Santa is bringing

Hudl tablet
Lego electric railway set
Dictionary
Set of Noddy books
Charades, connect 4 and ker plunk
Couple of jigsaws
Felt tip pens and coouring books
Playmobile airport stuff (all from ebay)
Paddington lunch box

Not sure what relatives have got him but think it will be clothes, a onesie, books. He is very fortunate.

imme · 18/12/2014 23:32

My DS is four and a half and I am shocked by the amount of presents that 5-6 year olds are getting.. Console and lots of other stuff on top?? Is this what I have to expect from next year?
So far he is getting two boxes of second Lego, a big box of new Lego, more Lego for his stocking and a Lego base plate. Books. Playmobil from family, not sure if anything else from family.

Feeling stingy. Maybe I'll have to go back to the shops and get some more presents?

Iggity · 18/12/2014 23:38

Imme, I think that sounds perfect, not stingy at all.
We buy too much. Can't help ourselves even when we know we are doing it. DS is only child and grandchild so is a bit spoiled by us and my four sisters and grandparents etc.

My DS is 6 and also not big on playing with toys. This year he's getting:

Skylanders Trap Team
Giant Tummy Stuffer
Various books

He and DD are also getting a few shared presents like a tub of wooden construction bits and a CD player for their room.

There might be more but I can't remember what it is. We do go a bit overboard with stockings though, so the actual presents tend to be more low key.

velouria · 19/12/2014 00:37

Have got ds 5 so far, a tablet (very cheap from amazon), a hexbug set and a spy set kit. Hmm Im going to be busy next week Hmm.

BertieBotts · 19/12/2014 00:46

DS doesn't play with toys either, it's annoying, he doesn't like sports much either. He's getting:

Disney Infinity game
Couple of books - Jeremy Strong and Dick King Smith
Minecraft handbook
Guinness Book of Records (although having seen it I don't know whether he'll be that into it, the writing's reeeeeeeally teeny and it's not as interesting as I remember it, ah well, he's obsessed with "the fastest" "the best" "the most" etc.)
A card game. I actually don't know what this is but he likes Uno so hoping it's similar.
Some colour-changing bath ball things

I want to get him a car transporter for his hot wheels/matchbox cars but the cheapest I can find a decent one foe is 20€ and we've already spent quite a bit now.

He got a lot of dressing up stuff for his birthday and despite initial excitement has not really used it so a bit meh about that.

We are not going home this year and presents from family are likely to be small or token so it's just up to us hence more things than usual.

Popular for his birthday was a Horrible Science kit, magnet science kit, magic trick set and a Ninja Turtles board game.

noblegiraffe · 19/12/2014 00:49

ihave that sounds like my dd... but her favourite thing is to fire it in daddy's face to wake him up Grin it was his idea to buy the fart gun!!

CalamitouslyWrong · 19/12/2014 11:34

Imme: I suspect you'd feel less stingy if you laid out your DS's list in the same way that everyone else has. If you lay it out as below, it looks like a similar amount to what many other people have listed (and it sounds like a 4 year old lego fan's dream!)

two boxes of second Lego
a big box of new Lego
more Lego for his stocking
a Lego base plate
Books
Playmobil from family, not sure if anything else from family.

Add on chocolate and new pyjamas and it looks a lot more than you were probably imagining when you thought my 'oh, he's just getting a bit of lego'.
