I've just bought already prepped honey glazed parsnips, brussel sprouts in butter with chopped bacon, roast potatoes covered in goose fat. (They also all come in disposable trays). All I need to do is shove them in the oven. Xmas Grin

anna- but people do lots of things "just because it's christmas".
I don't know anyone with stilton going mouldy in the fridge- ours is always eaten.

You go ahead and enjoy your pate.

One of the things I like most about Christmas is that it's a break from how we do things normally in our family. We're all at home on holiday. We eat things we don't normally have because they're too expensive or too much trouble or too fattening for everyday consumption and that makes them special. If we ate like that all the time, Christmas wouldn't be special at all.

In times gone by, winter would have been a very hard time indeed for most people. They could have rationed out the food and eaten the same every day till spring but instead they punctuated the dark, cold winter months with special days when they did things a bit differently to raise the spirits. If this meant having even leaner times in between, at least you had the memory of the last feast and the expectation of the next one to keep you going.

That's how I like to think of Christmas, anyway. In January when I am trying to lose the pounds I know I am about to put on over Christmas, I won't regret the Christmas food, because I enjoy it. Xmas Smile
