What are you getting your parents/PILS in their 60's?

I know it's a bit of a broad question and different men and women in their sixties like wildly different things BUT my PILS are going to have no gifts the way DP is going and I don't know what to get them!

I won't go into their likes an dislikes as they don't really seem to like anything in particular (I'm not being rude, they are lovely but have no interests much outside the grandchildren and watching TV).

So I am wondering if you can list what you are getting for your parents/PILS around this age group in the hope something inspires me/ DP who is actually responsible for their present buying!

Thank you!

ADAMANTEVE, Your PIL sound just like mine too. Slightly older but neither of them seem to have any interests or hobbies apart from the Grandchildren or sitting in the house watching TV.

She doesn't wear makeup, doesn't do her hair, has no interest in clothes or bags or jewellery. All he seems to do is sit in a chair and watch TV, read the paper and moan and complain about everything.

I leave it up to my dh but they usually just get a food hamper. Boring and predictable but I don't know what else you could possibly buy for them.

Lots of ideas here, excellent!

I think we are going with a magazine subscription and some smellies for MIL and something edible for FIL.

We would love to do a photo calendar but MILs sister makes them one every year, using the photos DP adds to Facebook of our DC!

I've got my mum a set of good towels (I made her chuck out a load of old ones this year) and a set of pjs. Sister is getting her a framed photo of the grandchild. SF is getting Bnq vouchers and a travel mug with picture of said grandchild.

I get magazine subscription for each of my parents which they really enjoy. They both say that they always forget that the next one is coming and get a nice surprise in the post.

They don't live nearby so i usually send a box with some sweets/chocolates, Christmas napkins, maybe a tree decoration. I got some of the utensils in the Tesco sticker offer to put in there too as I think my mum will like them. And school photos of the DCs.

PILs are more tricky as they spend a lot of the year overseas. This year we have bought them light weight fleeces and will probably get them some sweets/chocs too.

Some other ideas that might work - grow your own Amarylis is nice. Also get the local florist to deliver a Christmasy table centre/arrangement.

My parents and grandparents are both getting photo collage canvases this year. They are collectively and individually impossible to buy for, so I stick with things involving pics of their beloved grandchildren :) They've also requested photo calendars again this year must remember to order those

DH buys for PIL - MIL has got a lovely jigsaw and FIL has got a book of politically incorrect jokes Hmm which he will think is the best thing ever

Dh and I are in our 60s so I thought some of my suggestions might help.

I know this year that ds1 has got us the NT membership as that is what we asked for. Last year I got amazon vouchers and dh got a train driving experience (which I know was very expensive but as dh had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer ds2 wanted to spoil him.) Other things we have asked for in the past are plants, clothes and dh loves whiskey, red wine and baileys and of course we both like chocolate"

Wine, books, CDs, and back in October DS helped plant hyacinth bulbs in two pots which are now forcing in the cupboard under the stairs. (note to self, check they're damp, and they probably should be brought out into the light now).

We do a Secret Santa on my side and I didn't pick either of my parents out of the hat. Dh picked my Mum and he's got her a helicopter ride.

Dh buys for his side. So far, he's got his Mum a Spa/Lunch Day for two. He'll get her a few other things too.

Just popping back to say I'd love to get the hyacinths, that's a fab idea. It would well with hyacinth jars too, though you don't often see them now.

I'm a DM and the sort of things DP and I would like are

NT membership
Afternoon tea invite with DGC (either out or at home)
Photo calendar (in fact anything with DGC on)

Nice bubble bath
voucher for a manicure or beauty treatment
A voucher for garden centre
A scarf
A pair of really warm gloves

A handmade book mark from DGC (laminated if possible) - I just remember my DCs made these for all the aunties / GPs one and they all loved them.

DM (60) - spa vouchers and a homemade booklet detailing where she can spend them. We will also stump up travel to the spa but not sure where that will be yet. 1 litre of maple syrup from Costco. She loves the stuff! DVD of Sound of Music and also The King and I (she only has them on VHS).

DMIL (an exceedingly young 71 - she goes to the gym 3x a week!) - posh tea; sheepskin slippers; fitbit wristband; scarf

DF (another very young 79) - suitcase; luggage tag; rugby tickets; photo calendar

Actually OP, you might be onto a winner with the DVDs - I have realised recently that my parents have hundreds of VHS tapes they can no longer watch and no other way of watching their favourite old films unless they are on TV.
