Playmobil Panic - 2 year old DS - Advent calender disaster help!

I'm sure it's all my own fault - I know, I KNOW the packaging says 3 + and he's only 2.3 years. But after much research I decided that this year my DS would be getting some Playmobil for his main present. I even put a post on here to check whether i should get 123 or go straight for the big stuff... I have had no experience of it - I haven't even seen it.. that's my excuse and I am sticking to it

Anyway, i went and ordered the ark from amazon and now it's all wrapped up and ready to go. However, I also bought him the advent calender. And oh my. It is SO unsuitable. I mean, of course it is. It says it is. But I mean - I thought there would be some unsuitable bits that I would just remove, but it's ALL tiny. To the point where I have broken into all the days to see if I can pick out any of it to give him. Out of 24 days only three figures would be deemed safe :(

Please someone tell me is this the size of the real Playmobil? Is it a disaster? uh oh!!!

Sorry for long ramble.

I agree with previous posters a lot of the ark set will be fine for your DS. We bought it for my DS when he was coming up to 2 and took out the small pieces when we opened it. If you are worried you could open and assemble it before Christmas, removing the small pieces and leaving it with all the big animals and the people. The pieces are hard wearing, the only broken piece we have had is a giraffe ear. My DS loved playing with it, and putting the animals in and out.

I'd stick with it I think. Have just looked at it online and it looks great. Most animals, people, trees and the ark are all big. Just remove the smaller accessories and maybe the littler animals. I would love one myself. And it floats! Grin

I have older kids, and DS3 aged 2.4yr loves all their old Playmobil.
It has never occurred to me that it isn't suitable...
He plays with the Playmobil advent calendar, the swimming pool he adores, and his favourite at the minute is the knights castle.
There is small crap all over my house, just tell him not to put it into his mouth? Confused

I would have thought it would be OK as long as he's stopped putting everything in his mouth. If you do decide against it though, I would suggest you look at Duplo. Best toy ever IMO!! (and I don't work for Lego!)

We gave my then 21m son the woodland animals nativity scene Playmobil advent calendar last year Confused. He was absolutely fine with it and loved playing with the teeny hedgehogs. We gave him the recycling truck (not 123 one, the proper one with flashing lights) for his 2nd birthday. Again, totally fine. Also the plane and passengers. He plays a lot with his sister's swimming pool, houses, market, pirate ship, etc. He has one 123 set, the zoo.

This year, at 2.9, he has the dragon advent calendar and a bunch of Playmobil stuff is coming his way at Christmas.

Which calendar have you got? Sometimes the pieces look tiny but need assembling to play with.

Unless he still puts everything in his mouth (my DC never did, reflux has one advantage!) you should be fine.

It depends on the 2yo, IMHO. My DS has playmobil from his second birthday, and I would never have worried until one of his friends from nursery came round and was stuffing any bits he could lay his hands on into his mouth.

There are some good deals to be had on the 123 sets, OP, if you decide to keep the other set for another year.

I gave 4yo DGoddaughter the advent calendar because she loves playmobil and spends all her time at our house playing with DD's playmobil animals. She has a younger DSis - I hope I haven't caused them too many problems Blush.

My DD2 will be 2.6 at Christmas and is getting the takealong dollhouse as her main present - I went with this as I thought she would play with it longer than Happy Land and she does love her older sisters playmobil (and plays with it more than her).

I will be putting all the little pieces in a ziplock bag though, she will mainly get to play with the figures and the furniture.

She has good fine motor skills and enjoys taking their hats off and putting things in their hands, and you can't do this with Happy Land. We had some Playmobil 123 but it never got played with so I sold it.

The only thing I don't like about playmobil is trying to keep all the little bits together.

THe advent calendars are the worst for tiny bits!
