Or do I? Do you think people will notice if they don't get one from me this year?

I'm going to give it a shot anyhow. 15 minutes worth. If you see back here before 8pm shoo me away.

Done it ! (enters smug mode)

I've done mine and posted them overseas. My husband has done his annual, 'mail shot' of uncles, aunts cousins etc.

AalyaSecura · 04/12/2014 23:02

I have done most of mine and DH's - I'm generally very good at not taking on 'his' stuff but he has a bad hand tremor that means he doesn't like doing a lot of writing. I wonder how long they will now sit, waiting for me to buy stamps. Next task is helping the dc write theirs - which will be painful.

BathshebaDarkstone · 04/12/2014 23:10

I probably won't write any. Xmas Blush

SouthernOne · 04/12/2014 23:21

My present buying/wrapping is almost done, but |I haven't stepped in a card shop yet.

I've got my card sending list down to single figures so once I get round to buying them it won't take long to get them done.

I do send family cards which costs a small fortune, but I cannot drop this tradition. Well I could obviously, but I'd feel bad about it:)

DamselNotInHerDress · 04/12/2014 23:25

I don't bother. I'm not Eco, just lazy.
I buy the ones the dc make at school, make a list of a few people to send them too, then they write them. Only about 20.
And only because they are their cards.
I don't really put them up on display either. Horrible faffy bits of card that fall down/over/off and just generally look like Tatty clutter.
Again, the dc usually put their ones up in the front room but I don't really go in there so everyone's happy.

RunawayReindeer · 05/12/2014 00:24

Sorry damsel 'grinch' notinherdress

You BUY dc's.cards?? I get mine free but they are just 4 and 7mo Sad Xmas Sad

stewierooibos · 05/12/2014 06:55

We had a production line going on yesterday.
Ds stuck change of address stickers inthe cards. Dd wrote them. I wrote the envelope and Ds put them into the envelopes and stuck the stamps on.

So much easier! I did have a little giggle when dd wrote personal messages in the first few then gave up, done that many a time!

jetSTAR · 05/12/2014 07:11

Haven't written any yet but need to :( I always feel like I should add a photo of the kids for people we don't see ever often. I like receiving them though...Blush

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/12/2014 07:54

Well done Stewie! I need to train my family better!

The next bit (after I've actually bought some more cards) is to actually deliver them. The ones that go in the post box are easy. Its all of the local ones. I'm sure I have prewritten old cards in the loft somewhere from years where I've not quite managed it!

I was planning on only sending a few this year, and giving by had to local people. Stamps cost me about £30 last year!

bryonyelf · 05/12/2014 16:53

Oh I just can't be arsed this year!

DilysMoon · 05/12/2014 17:01

Ugh do you think I can get away with not bothering this year as have a squidgy newborn dc3 to attend to? *hopeful

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 05/12/2014 17:09

Thing is, people you see, you can give them a personal, verbal Christmas greeting and mean it.
People you don't, well, you don't.

I stopped cards a few years ago. No one cared. And if they did, I would direct them to the grip shop.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/12/2014 17:24

Dilys absolutely!

Werewolf, if I didnt shallowly rather like cards on my walls then I'd fully embrace your position! As it is when they come through my door I feel guilty if I've not reciprocated.

Yes Runaway I have to buy the fucking things!!
£5 for 10 cards so I buy a pack of each. Profits raised go to the PTA so at least it's for a good cause.
How do you manage to get yours for free? Xmas Shock

december12 · 08/12/2014 09:35

Don't do too many, you'll get the shock of your life when you go to buy the stamps.

My Gran used to end £300+. That's more than £150 in stamps in today's money. Obviously stamps have gone up with inflation buy have they become relatively more expensive?

I only send them to elderly relatives these days and that list gets shorter every year Sad

december12 · 08/12/2014 09:39

Did you know his parents "invented" Paddington Bear as we know him, with the wellies?

DamselNotInHerDress · 08/12/2014 09:40

Stamps do cost a fair bit these days, but ask yourself if you could jump in the car and deliver a card to Cornwall/Yorkshire/Gloucester for less petrol money and you'll possibly think you're getting good value for money! (I dont know where you live, but those are 3 places I'm sending cards to this year Xmas Smile )

december12 · 08/12/2014 09:40

Oops, wrong thread Blush

december12 · 08/12/2014 09:41

Oh I'm not saying it's too much for what you get, I just wonder how my Gran managed it.

Shesparkles · 08/12/2014 09:45

I had a lightbulb moment last week when I realised I'd be spending gng on for £30 on postage.

I decided to donate to my local foodbank instead. I put a message on Facebook saying what I'm doing (anyone I want to keep in touch with is on there anyway) and a few friends are joining me in doing the same.
I'm going shopping for it later today

Cornedbeefpie · 08/12/2014 09:47

I've just written five and left the rest until tomorrow. Hand cramp!
