She hates chocolate and biscuits and candles.

She's moving house at the moment.

She's 50.

Help!!!

(I got her hand cream as her last present)

Money in a christmas card?

Voucher?

Fresh01 · 22/11/2014 16:25

Nice plant in a pot?

Big bunch of flowers?

HermioneWeasley · 22/11/2014 16:27

Voucher for a massage or similar?

Lovelydiscusfish · 22/11/2014 16:40

Voucher? M and S or Boots might suit? We usually go for vouchers for the nursery workers/babysitters.

soaccidentprone · 22/11/2014 16:43

John lewis voucher. Can also be used at Waitrose.

honeyistoosweet · 22/11/2014 17:45

Now - I'm not against vouchers - but then we come to the amounts - what do you think is an appropriate amount? I am on a tight budget, but do not want to offend...

No more than £20

Havingabeer · 22/11/2014 18:38

John lewis voucher plus stolen gift along side. That ways he won't know exactly how much you've spent

nancy75 · 22/11/2014 18:41

Stolen gift? I don't think that's a very good idea Grin

CountingThePennies · 22/11/2014 18:42

I think a stolen gift is a great idea if you are skint

I suppose if you steal it badly enough you could get yourself some free board and lodging Over xmas, do you think you get Turkey for Xmas dinner in prison ??

DefinitelyNOTthepootroll · 22/11/2014 18:51

If you're on a tight budget how about a nice framed picture of your DC and her?

I'm a nanny and would love that. Other (cheaper) things I've had and greatly appreciated:
Massage voucher
Beautiful flowers
Set of lovely wine glasses (& wine)
Welly boots (muddy walk with kids!)
Fluffy warm blanket

I've also had VERY expensive gifts but honestly a thoughtfully written card is always what means the most. Can DC make something?

honeyistoosweet · 22/11/2014 21:24

Oh some great ideas thank you! well maybe not the stolen present - im not subtle enough ;)

I think £20 is the right amount for a voucher in these circumstances. We normally give £10 vouchers, but dd has a number of nursery workers/babysitters - if there was one main person (as I'm guessing the nanny is) then £20 seems more fitting - not sure why. But obviously if money is tight or anything, £10 is equally fine and not stingy - you can get some nice stuff for a tenner!
