Now ds is three he's starting to get Christmas this year - so how do people explain father Christmas, and what gifts come from him? I was thinking that stockings are from him and main presents from us? Stockings are just small gifts and chocolate etc.

How does that work soverylucky?
We get friends and family dropping round with presents almost daily in the few weeks before Christmas.
They used to go straight under the tree but once someone broke into my GP's and stole all the tree presents so now they go in a box in my room until Christmas Eve.

Father Christmas brings all the presents except two special gifts from dh and myself.

Father Christmas brings the stocking and one present, usually something they've asked for and I've said no to.

Their main present is from me, and others are from whoever they're from.

Even though the stocking only contains little things it is still their favourite and most exciting bit.

Ours is they send Santa a list of all the things they would like and choose one as their Christmas Wish - that's what Santa brings.

Then, for every good deed a gift from their list gets passed to someone who loves them so the better they are, the more they get! (In theory....!)

This way we still have santa but avoids a load of questions about the logistics of it all.

In our house Father Christmas fills the stockings, they tend to include a mix of cheaper presents like Moshi Monsters blind bags and chocolate money with presents that are more expensive but small in size like Leappad games and Toobs (small animal figure sets).

It is the same as what was done when I was a child. I don't remember ever questioning why I wrote to Father Christmas asking for things like Barbie dolls and then got those presents from my Mum rather than Father Christmas.

My little one is too little to ask questions and my older son is autistic, his concept of Christmas and Father Christmas is limited. He completely believes the man at the library grotto is Father Christmas and he doesn't want any presents from him, just getting to see him in overwhelmingly exciting enough.

For that reason I avoid making a big fuss that Father Christmas has come on Christmas morning otherwise he would expect me to produce the lovely man from the library. Saying Father Christmas is coming is like saying Nana is coming, he expects there to be a person he can see.

Someone who comes when he is asleep and leaves presents is a bit more than he can understand right now.

We have Santa (in Scotland) and he brings the stocking and all the presents under the tree that we've bought. DS knows the presents bought by other family come from them (so he can thank them).

DD is 6 and has never questioned why we don't buy him presents, and he knows that we buy presents for other people.

In our house Santa brings a stocking with things like choc, hair bobbles, pencils etc. then he brings a sack with larger, but cheap presents. Games/jigsaws that sort of thing from B and M or charity shops. Under the tree are gifts from us and family all labelled. DD can ask Santa for whatever she likes but he can only try to bring one thing from her list. however her wishes are usually modest so he brings all of them. This year it's top trumps, a board game and something Scooby Doo,.

Stockings from Santa, presents from everyone else, stockings have chocolates, pens, fruit, novelty gifts.
