Was having a shift around in the shed for stuff after just moving house earlier this year. When I stumbled on my Christmas decorations. I have been a blubbering wreck since. The shed has leaked, my decorations are all damp and mouldy. I'm devastated that the ones that used to be my Mamd are all damaged as well and are irreplaceable.

I have chucked all my tinsel in the bin as there was no saving it. I have washed all my wicker decorations but they stink of damp.

Most of my ornaments are damaged thought about dipping the best of the bunch in glue and covering in glitter, most of my little wooden 1s have fallen apart.

Any of you lovely people got any cheap ideas for nice decorations as I am on a very tight budget this year.

TIA Flowers and Christmas Cake

Your tree is very tasteful compared to ours!
Ours is a riot of colours, no theme, a combination of things the dc have made over the years and things we've bought. And a toilet roll angel on the top with a photo of each of the dcs faces on top and every year we have to turn it to the next person whose turn it is to be at the front! Oh, and they decorate it themselves!

Salt dough is so easy to make and if you gave Christmas shaped cutters your ds can make fab decorations - just remember it poke a hole through the deviation before it dries! Paint then spray with hairspray to 'varnish' it! I'm a p2 teacher (y1) and we made 3 lots of salt dough and 23 Diwali pots the other week in 20 mins - 1 adult, 23 kids, that's how easy it is!! Druzes in hours or microwave it in minutes! You can also make decs with bread - use stale bread, use Christmas shape cutters, remember the hole for ribbon, let the bread dry out then paint/glitter and hairspray!

DamselNotInHerDress your tree sounds great fun and personal, the best kind of tree ever!

Thanks She, we think so too! Nothing better for my happiness than to see the dc excitedly opening the box and rediscovering all their old favourites and then spend half an hour throwing it all on with gusto. My dm wouldn't let us help, she uses to do it when we were in bed.
I know many would shudder at our tree but it suits us down to the ground :)
Good luck in your quest to replace your decorations, pm me with your address and new theme if you'd like, I'd be more than happy to send something to contribute. Promise I won't let the dc help Grin

Damsel, sounds like mine. I love it too. Smile

I was really impressed with Wilkos - it might get you the basics. I really do sympathise as collecting lovely Christmas decorations takes years.

Sorry to hear about your decorations, its more about the loss of the memories than the cost.

Have a look in Ikea for inexpensive, cottage themed decorations as a short term solution. As others have said, wait to buy more in the pre & post Xmas sales. Garden centres, posh dept stores & museum shops are good places to buy special
ornaments.

When we bought a bigger tree (and wanted to add ornaments), I bought a few nice ones that appealed to me, and then some inexpensive "filler" ornaments that I liked. Each year, I've replaced some of the "filler" ornaments with more meaningful or nice ones that I've made or bought. So it's a work in progress, really.

Poundland has actually some decent looking ornaments this year - I saw a few yesterday I was considering. I'd just keep an eye out at whatever store you go to - they all are getting out the Christmas stuff, so you're sure to find things here and there that appeal that are inexpensive. And browse Pinterest for things to make as well. Little country style hand sewn stuffed ornaments are always popular and look pretty.

That's a lovely photo. You could put it on a bauble so the decorations can still be on your tree. Lots of photo shops do photo baubles and tree decorations.
