I've recently read about a tradition to do a Christmas Eve hamper? Anyone do it and what do you put in yours? I have 2 dc under 2 so looking to start our own traditions and thought it would be lovely to snuggle up on Xmas eve with a DVD not sure how long they will sit still for! and I've already bought them some Christmas pjs.
I'd love to hear of any other Christmas family traditions too.

We also do a christmas box on Dec 1st. Christmas eve has always been far too busy plus I like to get lots of use out of the contents Smile

This year it will contain new winter onesies, a christmas book each, Christmas activity books, hot chocolate mugs, cookie making kit and recipes, letter to santa kits and their advent calendars. That way they get to use everything throughout December and not just on Christmas Eve.

We do PJ's, a book or DVD and a bath bomb ( to encourage them to have a bath and put on pj's ). The hamper is from me as the dd's don't really believe anymore and Santa would be a bit busy to deliver 2 nights in a row.

Father Christmas is a small part of our Christmas. Love, togetherness, family, shared experience, joy are more important. The Christmas hamper is a lovely part of this.

It is okay to say a hamper isn't for you. You don't have to be disparaging about those who do it. It dilutes nothing. It's about as rude as me saying your focus on FC reduces the holiday down to lies and expectation of gifts.

We love Santa and we don't dilute the magic by having extra visits from Santa,

There is always ^one isnt there!

We have a nice quiet family meal, watch a film together and maybe cheese and biscuits with some port later on. This year I'm working so won't be home until midnight but DH has promised a late night film and cheeseboard on arrival. I prefer Christmas Eve to Christmas day to be honest.

My girls will be just over one at Christmas. Our hamper will contain Christmas mugs for DH and I, hot chocolate stick stirrer things, chocolate Brazil nuts (in memory of MIL who died whilst I was pregnant, they were her favourites), lidl Christmas spiced fudge, pj's for DTD's, a Christmas book and the Happy land Christmas figures. DTD's will obviously be too young to get it but I can't wait for us to start building up our own traditions as a family.

I love Christmas Eve, it's the best day of the year!

We do food prep in the morning, dd (6) makes the pigs in blankets and is quite delighted with herself! Then tidy up a bit, I'll be on maternity leave this year so will to get most of it done before.

Last year we made sweets and delivered them to the neighbours - nothing exciting chocolate bark with smarties on top. I think we'll do that again this year as dc's enjoyed it although may do it day before to drag out some of the activities. We also make fairy cakes for Santa as my biscuits never turn out well!

We will go out for a walk round the block or to deliver sweets and on our return the Christmas elf will have left a hamper. In the hamper there will new pjs, bubble bath, toothbrushes, new book and popcorn in boxes I found in Poundland. I've given up with watching a full film as dc's are just too excited so don't bother with a new DVD. My BIL is having his 2 boys this Christmas so my nephews will be here and the elves will leave them a hamper too.

I save glass jars which we decorate, pop in led candles and put them down the drive to show Santa where we are - we don't have a chimney. The neighbours always comment on how nice it looks.

We will have a wee dance to some Christmas music and snacky type dinner. Put out cakes for Santa plus carrots for reindeer. Try to watch a film but will give up half way through, give dc's a bath and then read Night Before Christmas and try to convince dc to go to sleep. Last year it was surprisingly easy - dd had been asking to go to bed since 4pm!

Dh and I then put presents out in living room - I wrap them earlier in December, use dh work boots and talcum powder to do footprints in the hall and wrap the living room door in wrapping paper for dc's to burst through in the morning.

I love all of it, it's the best part of Christmas!

I'm hoping to do this Christmas Eve. Dh always works until about 4.30/5 Christmas Eve so he'll 'find' the box when he comes home.
Planning to have new pjs, socks, film, reindeer food, santa key, popcorn, sweets and hot chocolate in ours.
