Stocking fillers for men...

Givemecaffeine21 · 04/11/2014 15:45

Ideas? I'd like to find a site that sells 'not too expensive' fillers that aren't just utter junk that waste our finances....i.e. crappy items like the chocolate boobs or 'health warning toilet paper' which would be fitting you put in the Secret Santa at work. So far I've got an engraved Keyring on the way which was a fiver...

What do people get their DHs/DPs?

That cat book looks fab. Might get that for DS whose two favourite things are the cat and YouTube!

stealthsquiggle · 06/11/2014 10:42

DH is a misery grump about the whole stocking thing, and the DC and I generally end up with most of what I have bought for him Sad - DS is currently sporting DH's "zombie socks" from last year (alternating between them and his own skeleton socks) and DD has most of the silly toys. The only thing he kept was the chocolate etc which he ate.

  • so now I am torn between continuing to try and find things that he will actually keep and use, and thinking of things in terms of being easy to recycle to me and the DC Grin

To be honest, I got that one for me really ;) - I think he'll prefer the one on football.

I've got DH a few things to help personalise his office, as it is a bit nondescript and everyone else's is full of their stuff. I like the photo magnet idea, and something practical with a union jack on it.
chocolate
Phone charger keyring
Small jar of personalised homemade jam to take to work, and Christmas chutney (that will go well with some cheese).
He's been hinting that he'd like a new tie, and some aftershave might be a good idea, if we can find one we both like.
I might get around to making him a hat or even some socks.

AndHarry · 06/11/2014 14:21

Xbox game
Screen protector for his new phone
Aftershave balm
Nice chocolates
Fancy socks from TK Maxx
Book
Yankee car air freshener
Manly face mask

Nicking the personalized coke bottle and cuff link ideas.

So far I have:
Soap and glory men's gift set
A key finder
Space invader ice cube tray
Mug with a biscuit holder
Mini bottle of whisky
A little magic trick set (to impress DCs with!)

I also plan to get socks, a CD or book, and chocolate!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 06/11/2014 23:10

Oh and I've also got one of those insulated coffee mugs. DS has started football club on a Saturday morning so DH will need a hot drink as he stands on the sidelines!

My DP would look somewhat perplexed if he got a stocking for Christmas

And good job really, as I feel I have enough crap to be getting on with filling stockings for the DC and thinking of, purchasing and wrapping every present for everyone else...

Fair play to those that do think of their DP in this way though... It's just never occurred to either of us.

Stockings are for kids

Hmmm, quite sad but I might have to ask for a stocking Sad Every year I do DH a stocking & every year he seems surprised by it. I have never had a stocking since I moved out of home & in with him. He usually gets choc coins, mini whisky, book, mug, pants/socks etc...nothing special but at least its something.

stealthsquiggle · 07/11/2014 09:35

Lemontwist I do my own Blush. In my defence, the DC have come to expect everyone to have one and would want to know what Mummy/Daddy had done wrong if we didn't get one, and I have given up trying to get DH to step up and do mine, besides which FC makes sure all the stockings have something in common so they all clearly come from him IYSWIM. Mine contains all sorts of useful or frivolous small things that I need/ want including sewing stuff. FC also tends to find kitchen gadgets for DH.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/11/2014 10:11

ReluctantBiker, I don't usually do a stocking for DH either. But last year he made a bit of an amusing performance in front of the DC pretending to be really disappointed that he didn't get a stocking from Father Christmas anymore!

So at the request of DS, this year, we are making him a 'stocking', which is actually going to be a big box with lots of little presents in, and this is his main present (there's a couple of nicer things in there too). I'm not doing both!

WienerDiva · 07/11/2014 10:46

Hoping this thread my save me from myself. I always get him slippers, pants, socks and a book. I've promised to be better this year.

WienerDiva · 07/11/2014 10:46

*may save me from myself, her

WienerDiva · 07/11/2014 10:47
  • grr not her. I give up.
Furball · 07/11/2014 12:38

another idea = those gloves that you can use with a touch screen phone.

I buy for my own stocking too, but on a positive note = that way it's always full of things I like - no tat for me Grin

girlywhirly · 07/11/2014 13:32

I have just found a glass Guinness mug and bottle of Guinness in Tesco for £7 which will go in DH's stocking. Also found some Guinness flavoured potato crisps from Burts in the snacks aisle! Waitrose have Guinness chocolates which DH had a previous year, actually very nice, better than expected so might be good for sweet toothed Guinness lovers.

For spectacle wearers you can get little cleaning kits from Boots/Boots opticians containing cleaning spray and cloth, and a jewellers screwdriver to tighten up loose frames. Independent opticians have nice specs cases too.
