'Big' present for 5.5 year old dd

My children are lucky enough to get a lot of presents from friends and family. Mil in particular is of the 'more is more' school of thought and buys them at least 10 presents each.
For this reason I prefer to just get them one main present from us and a stocking from Father Christmas.
But am struggling with dd-she already has a bike and a scooter, garden toys, dolls, playmobil, Lego, craft stuff etc.
Am toying with the idea of a tablet but maybe should wait until she actually asks for one-would probably go for a kindle fire.
Or, as she won't understand the money side should I just wrap up one of her larger stocking presents (there is a grow your own crystals set which she will love or a voice changing microphone) and save some money?!

My dd who has just turned 6 wants the Cayla doll that connects to phone or iPad and talks to you
Even though DH thinks bits an over priced doll I am toying with actually getting it for her. Of course I am not influenced by the fact that I really really wanted a cricket doll as a child which you could put a tape in and it would talk and read you a story and sing but never got it!

My 5.5yr old daughter is having the TMNT Sewer Lair Grin

ihaveadirtydog · 28/10/2014 22:49

I had to look that up builders! It certainly is...erm...big Grin. I don't think my dd would know a tmnt if it came out and bit her so think I'll leave that for this year!
That doll actually looks quite fun-she could ask it all the questions I can't answer!

A puppet theatre and puppets?

You could always just wrap up some of her larger stocking gifts and save some money though. After all she doesn't understand the money side of things yet, and even if she did, when you get a gift you love, even as an adult you don't care about the price tag.

ScrabbledLeggsAndToes · 28/10/2014 23:03

Accept maybe you do think about the price tag if you're my old boss...

When I showed her my gold wedding ring, she asked me why I hadn't got dh to got me a white gold one as it had better resale value! Shock Confused

I'm not quite sure who she thought I was going to be flogging my wedding ring to!!! Hmm

Oh well, it takes all sorts Smile

She sounds weird!
Yes-I think saving money may be the way to go-or at least put some aside in case she asks for something closer to the time.
Puppet theatre might actually go down well though thank you.

Castle or dolls' house?

My dd is a little older at just 6 and she really wants a puppy - we don't right now - so she is getting the Gogo walking puppy from Fur Real as her big gift from us. Another idea is tickets to see Disney on Ice if she is into Frozen etc. or a trip to a fun park or zoo? Adopt an animal at the zoo while you are at it? A sled in case you have snow? Baking supplies and her own apron? Magic set? Chapter books?
Don't spend the money just for the sake of it as it sounds like she will be getting plenty of toys!
