One big present or loads of small presents?

Would it be cruel to get my nearly 3 yr old one expensive present rather than loads of smaller cheaper presents?

I've seen the perfect gift but it would mean no extras apart from gifts from family.

I hope not - that's what we do (& I got when wee!)

We do
Stocking from Santa
1 big present from Santa,
Board game/£10 pressie from mum & dad
£5 pressie from sibling

Thankyou, I think I'll stick to the one big present Smile and I'll do the same for my 1year old.

My older 2 have always had the loads of smaller presents approach to xmas but thats changing this year for them too lol I'm sick of wasting money on gifts that end up under a bed.

We vary it year to year.

If they request a 'big' present, they get a few little presents in addition (books, jigsaws, fancy pens).

If they ask for something small (book, raspberry pi, sweets) , we top it up, there might be a 'big' thing in amongst the stuff.

I think it's ok if the child's getting gifts from other family members, I decided dd1 would be having one big present this year but then I managed to pick up a few small bargains ( and have now spent way too much ), my dd's don't really get presents from other family members, most don't bother or they give cash so I feel the need to buy a bit more.
