I am think of buying this for Dd2 who will be 4 at Christmas.

Am torn between this and a wooden house (probably the Asda one)

Any opinions on which one would be better?

We have it, but the older style one with the old fashioned look. It has had lots of use over the years, and still comes out, especially if we have guests. I got it because it was neat and compact and everything tucked away inside. They could use it with all the other Playmobil too.

It is pretty sturdy, though they have managed to make the hinges come apart, not broken though, they just clip back on. The old style didn't have much of a kitchen so I bought a separate set. No bathroom either, but they haven't noticed. A big hit was the open chimney that they could slide things down (and if I find a loose bit lying around can just pop it in). I wish it had opening windows, think it would be better.

All in all I've been happy with it. Kids are not heavily into dolls so didn't want a big thing. Nice and compact, all tidies away and looks nice on shelf. Will probably be the one bit of Playmobil we keep for future generations.

We've got the new style one, the hinges are a pain in the backside to be honest - constantly coming apart. DD (4yo) and DS (21mo) both enjoy playing with it though and the furniture set / figures are really good.

It does store inside itself and fits on a shelf nicely so has that advantage.

If I was buying again, I think I'd go for the wooden house and maybe get some plyamobil furniture to go in it. But if you've no younger DC in the house the playmobil house may fair better (it is generally DS who 'breaks' the hinges!)

Dd3 got it for her 3rd birthday in April. Gets played with most days. For us, much more convenient than a wooden dolls house in terms of space and obviously it can move easily from room to room. Friend's dd got the Asda wooden house at the same time, but found it very deep so hard for her to play with. Not had a problem with the hinges.

Yes, but gave it to charity a few months back as it was a bit rubbish really. I would spend money on a proper dolls house.
