Elf. Best Christmas film ever.

LoveMyBoots · 12/10/2014 12:29

I second Elf. Saw it for the first time last year (obviously been living in a cave up till then). It was very funny.

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/10/2014 13:19

Elf
Nightmare Before Christmas
The Grinch

It's a Wonderful Life is my personal favourite, but not sure that would go down so well with 11/12 year olds.

o0 · 12/10/2014 13:33

I was going to say Elf too. Grin

You sit on a throne of lies.

Hobbes8 · 12/10/2014 13:39

Another Elf vote. Also Arthur Christmas and Muppets Christmas Carol

WeAreGroot · 12/10/2014 13:43

Muppet Christmas Carol is quite possibly the greatest Christmas film ever.

I also love Nightmare Before Christmas.

poolomoomon · 12/10/2014 13:59

Scrooged is good. Elf obviously. National Lampoons!! A Christmas story is hilarious too.

spottymoo · 12/10/2014 14:09

Elf is a good one forgot about that one Grin
We had nightmare before christmas last year and the kids wasn't impressed by it.
I'll look out for national lampoons christmas as well can't remember if I've seen that one or not.

I've never seen Elf either. Would it be good for my 7 and 4 year old do you think?

Cric · 12/10/2014 14:15

Elf is brilliant! Smile I personally think it is better for older children. Upper primary and beyond. But I think others might disagree. I also love miracle on 34th street Grin

Cric · 12/10/2014 14:16

Oh I also love the nativity!!

o0 · 12/10/2014 14:23

Smile, mine were 4 and 7 when we bought Elf and they loved it.

gamescompendium · 12/10/2014 14:24

smileandnod A big part of the story in Elf is about adults not believing in Santa so probably better for older kids depending on your views about maintaining the magic, we've not shown it to our kids yet (7, 5 and 2). That is true for a lot of Christmas movies though, stick with The Snowman with littlies.

Love Actually is my favourite at Christmas time, maybe still a bit adult for pre teens though.

o0 · 12/10/2014 14:27

But it shows that the adults were WRONG and that Santa is real. And it's funny. Grin

vestandknickers · 12/10/2014 14:29

Nativity! Best Christmas film ever!

storminabuttercup · 12/10/2014 14:36

Polar express is a favourite here.

I like the Father Christmas cartoon too as it reminds me of being a kid and watching it.

I like all the Santa clause films too but then I love Tim Allen, Christmas with the kranks is another favourite

iloveholidays · 12/10/2014 15:57

love elf... In fact watching it now Grin

couldthisbeit · 12/10/2014 16:03

The Nativity is absolutely brilliant. But our favourite is Miracle on 34th Street - nicely traditional and it makes me believe it has the real Father Christmas in it Wink

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 12/10/2014 18:51

I enjoyed Santa Claus the Movie (many, many times), Arthur Christmas is my favourite recent one, although Nativity is good too.

anyoldname76 · 12/10/2014 18:57

I love, Christmas vacation, elf, Christmas with the kranks, Fred Claus, polar express, the holiday, home alone, Jack frost and groundhog day which isn't a Christmas film but it has snow in Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/10/2014 19:16

My DC love Nativity 1 & 2 (and I'm sure there's a 3 this year)

I love A Christmas Carol (the animated Jim Carey one)

I can't watch Elf because I was eating some salted caramel chocolates one year (they were very sweet and sickly) so my mind associates the two Sad

My favourite favourite of all time is Lost Christmas (Eddie Izzard) . When the little girl is on the ice Sad , I feel cold myself just watching it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/10/2014 19:21

Oooh years ago someone recommended "Box of Delights" , I have it recorded but never watched it.

306235388 · 12/10/2014 19:22

My Ds has been watching elf since he was 2 and dd has always watched it. They love it and if has reinforced rather than diluted the magic.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 12/10/2014 19:25

I make my family watch The Flint Street Nativity every year. Entirely for my own pleasure the DCs get enough other treats.

The sight of Frank Skinner's King processing up the stage, disappearing further and further into his own frock until he falls over, is part of the sheer joy of Christmas for me.

Rowboat · 12/10/2014 21:09

I absolutely agree about the Flint Street Nativity. It is genius! Grin Love it when he's searching the inn for a free room "nope, David Beckham in that one..."

Ahhhh... I might fish it out tomorrow...
