I have always wanted to decorate stair bannister with a fake garland - was looking for some inspiration & also a good place to buy from. IN my minds eye I could attach baubles & cones to it or nice scented things but change it ever yyear IYKWIM ?

Have you done thi s- is it worth the effort or is it too much ? Due to no nearby plug socket we couldn't have a pre-lit version.

Sorry to pre-shock you, but you need to be prepared to buy more than two "garlands" to festoon a staircase. They are expensive, but so short! Shock

If you're prepared to wait till January, that's the time to plan Christmas. John Lewis has lovely decorations (though even lovelier in the sales!), and, lovely as it is, I wouldn't buy anything from The White Company until the reductions.

Meanwhile, maybe your local garden centre might have some fake garlands, or could set you up with trimmings/offcuts which you could wire into place on your staircase for this year. Smile

BTW, plenty of pre-lit garlands are battery operated, meaning they can be placed wherever you like, and don't seem to get as hot as the mains-operated ones. Supermarkets and Ikea stock pre-lit garlands and also plain fairy lights, but check the packet to be sure batteries are needed, rather than a plug.

Have a look at QVCUK. They have garlands there but keep an eye out because I am sure they did a today's special value in November on the same stuff last year.

Watching with interest.

Last year I bought a faux pine needle garland from IKEA, I had planned to put things on it but in the end just doubled it over and arranged it on the mantlepiece with fairy lights woven into it. It looked really pretty.
