What do other boys his age like to play with?

DS is utterly obsessed with monopoly ATM but he will be on to a new obsession by Christmas hopefully. Before monopoly it was chess, before chess it was Top Trumps. I would like to inspire him towards something that he'd love, but that has a bit more common currency with his classmates.

He does some imaginative play but has no interest in cars, trains or dressing up so playdates can be a bit tricky!

Famous five game books you say I know a dd who would love that.

Sleepswithbutterflies I just complied one myself. Stethoscope was about £2 from amazon, bandages, plaster, ice pack etc were from poundland, forehead thermometer from ebay and then I made a prescription pad and x rays from a web tutorial here

K'Nex is easier than mecano. My two have lots and alternate between this and Lego.
DT1 likes jigsaw puzzles and about 1000 piece is his limit. We let him have the table for a couple of weeks (covering it with a piece of hardboard when we have dinner) and everyone has a go.

These were the Famous Five books I meant but there seem to be some modern ones as well that are in print, don't think they use dice though. The ones we like have a dice with all the characters on and other stuff like code book and torch - but you have to make sure they are being sold together as the book doesn't work without the extras, and they are different for each book.

Our two favourite games are Dobble, Shut the box and for good measure I'll include Uno

Brownies and Rainbows stuff will be on the list too. This thread is making me start to plan.

Sorty to bump this back up, just wanted to say a big (and v belated, sorry) thank you to the later repliers for the inspiration.

I think he'd particularly love the many sided dice Laura.
