Giant piano mat - as much fun as they look?

Am trying to come up with interesting gifts for GPs to buy for my DC 3.9 and 18 months at Christmas.
Came across this idea - giant piano mat

looks like fun. Has anyone got one of these or similar - I hate coming up with ideas and then feeling like people have wasted their money.

If it's a no vote then I am very open to other ideas please!

mil bought one for one of our kids a couple of years ago.
It's been up in the roof space for most of that time......
that might be more to do with me than the quality of the toy, though. I can't stand big big toys.

Massive disappointment after 'Big'.

we have one from BIL but it rarely gets used, it was fun to run up and down once or twice, but then became boring and is not asked for, I sometimes get it down for a bit.

Do they have a paddling pool full of balls? tunnels and tents? indoor trampoline? Those are all much more popular in out house as shared gifts for the 4.1 and 6month old.

Yes, fun, but for a week, maybe two at most, unless you are a very musical household?

The best presents we've ever had for young DCs have been tickets or money towards days out. Do you have a local attraction that offers an annual pass?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 05/10/2014 17:10

Yes!

We use ours loads. It is one you have to play with them or they loose interest though.

My 3 year old's is stuffed behind the sofa and ignored most of the time, the novelty wore off quickly. She prefers her little keyboard for playing tunes on.

marne2 · 05/10/2014 17:19

A keyboard is much more fun, ours gets used every day.

CrumblyMumbly · 05/10/2014 17:23

Same here - it's kind of a running joke now where we get it out every Christmas and it is played with for 5 minutes then ignored so put away for next year! My dd is 4 now and still not into it - also takes up most of floor space. Will give it one more try this Christmas then I give up! Micro scooter has been best present ever and used every day or the lego(duplo) farm (about £10) has also been fantastic and would highly recommend.

Agree with others. They are fun... for 5 minutes.

thanks so much for these replies - think its a no then - although there is part of me that thinks my PIL would love it as they are indeed pretty musical and would probably enjoy it too - even if short-lived.

this is exactly why i find it hard coming up with ideas - we don't really need anything - have the Duplo, ball pit and tunnels. strawberryshoes the indoor trampoline is a good idea - DD would love it but I fear it would have to be up all the time which we don't really have space for. The piano mat presumably could be easily stashed away (never to be seen again by the sounds of it!)

Yes - issues with space for the trampoline - the one we have folds down but DD wants it up all the time so it is pretty pointless!
