Random Christmas bedding question

Wise mumsnetters, please help with this dilemma (yes, this matters to me far more than it should, especially as its only October!)
I'm looking for some christmas bedding for us all, to re-use each year. Will probably get the Primark snowflake one for me and DH, but struggling for DS. For the last few years all our bedding has been 100% cotton, as the polycotton sheets we had when we first moved out went horrible and bobbly. All the nice designs for children's christmas bedding are polycotton though Sad. Just wondering, given that we'll only use it for a couple of weeks a year, will polycotton feel ok or will it be horrible? This comes after the Octonauts 100% polyester bedding disappointment of 2013, I'm anxious not to go through that again!
Disclaimer: far worse things going on in my life at the moment, think I'm obsessing about bedding as a bit of a distraction technique...

We too only have linen or cotton bedding but I have bought a polycotton set (on Christmas Duvets thread).

It is ok, you can't really compare the two ..but the Christmas set was the cost (or less) than a pillowcase so you shouldn't really try.

I think it will be fine once washed for a couple of weeks a year but I did wimp out and only buy one for my daughter and not our bed.

Not worth spending much more on really is it. I am considering making a throw out of the duvet cover with some batting in the middle and some red velvet cushion covers (have a remnant) with bits of the pattern appliquéd on them - depends how much time I have.

If you can sew you could use the poly cotton as a throw on top of your regular bedding.

Distractions are always good - I am trying to distract myself from my car breaking down yesterday - the day after the three year warranty ran out - looks like a massive four figure bill and I need to gird my loins and try to get a bit of goodwill from the manufacturer.

Thanks Lavender, some good ideas there. Not sure about my sewing skills but did successfully sew name labels into all of DSs school clothes this year so maybe I'm up to it.
Argh bad news about your car - the worst thing about having a warranty is the fact you can guarantee any problems will only arise the minute it expires! Good luck tackling manufacturer.

As it's for winter, you could put a top sheet between yourself and the duvet, a snuggly flannelette one would be lovely. Elderly FIL always stuck with his top and bottom sheets when he got a duvet, so that he didn't have to wash the cover too often (with the resulting struggle to get duvet in and out of it.) 50% cotton, 50% polyester bedding is usually OK though.

Good idea girly about the sheet, will do that.
noidea he's only 4 so I want a proper cheesy christmas one! Might get the Matalan one that counts down to christmas then (with pocket on 24th Dec for sneaky extra present Grin)
