Lego sets for girls?

Can anyone recommend a good starter Lego kit that is neutral or good for girls?

OP posts:

All of them.

Northumberlandlass · 27/09/2014 18:32

It's lego. Sad
Any of it

notnowbernard · 27/09/2014 18:32

How old?

Biscoff · 27/09/2014 18:33

Any of them? :-/

TheHandmadeStaleBread · 27/09/2014 18:33

Isn't all Lego for girls?

Tigresswoods · 27/09/2014 18:35

face palm

I was a girl in the 80s & 90s who loved Lego. I had Robin Hood, Pirates, town, space & all combinations I can think of.

That said I would have LOVED the Lego Friends sets they do now.

LEMmingaround · 27/09/2014 18:35

Lego is pretty unisex. My 9yo dd likes lego chima.

everforever · 27/09/2014 18:36

I bought normal Lego for did.
She has been given off other people barbie Lego etc

The barbie Lego took daysbto put together then she broke it up and just plays with her other lego and ignores the barbie stuff.

She like to build her own things.

Iggly · 27/09/2014 18:37

Not Lego friends.

Try the LEGO creator stuff. Eg a house or something.

OddBoots · 27/09/2014 18:38

I agree that they are all suitable but some sets are easier if it is a gift as some parents get a bit odd about it and sometimes gentle is kindest- I love the Camper Van and lots of the Creator series for both boys and girls.

LeBearPolar · 27/09/2014 18:39

Any of them. Why would some sets not be good for girls? Confused

Ragwort · 27/09/2014 18:39

Does every child really love Lego? My DS had zero interest in it despite being given loads every Christmas and birthday by generous relatives and friends - our local charity shop loved us Grin.

Parietal · 27/09/2014 18:40

get one of the big boxes with lots of regular bricks - the little kits don't have enough parts to make new things.

notnowbernard · 27/09/2014 18:41

I think we all know Lego is good-for-all

Think OP is just looking for ideas?

Tbh if I bought my 8yr old dd Ninjago or Chima she'd look a bit bewildered... luckily there's enough on the market to suit most tastes, whether that be 'girly', construction, warrior or whatever

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 27/09/2014 18:41

The whole point of Lego was that anyone could play with it, wasn't it?

exexpat · 27/09/2014 18:41

Something open-ended is best, like one of the Lego creator buckets, e.g. this one or this one. Then add to it possibly with a house kit, or a few vehicles (some of the little vehicle kits or figures make good stocking fillers).

Itsfab · 27/09/2014 18:41

Any of it EXCEPT the crap aimed at girls.

ouryve · 27/09/2014 18:43

Any.

Though the Lego Friends, which is marketed at girls, is pink and easier than other lego and far from neutral.

If you want something that's not heavily themed, then you need to look at Lego Creator.

notnowbernard · 27/09/2014 18:44

1 of my dds loves Lego Friends

The other dd isn't fussed with it at all but loves building her own stuff

[shrug]

BlackRedGold · 27/09/2014 18:46

How old is your DC?

Dd started with a v small safari animal set, easy to build as each thing had short instructions. She also got a big red tub with houses and vehicles - number 6053 but might be discontinued now. Though I'm sure you could get something similar.

Lego creator 3 in 1 are brilliant for slightly older ones, but might be too much for a first introduction for a 4 year old. We have a blue beach house, and a brown log cabin, and they are fab. We also have a brilliant Lego City camper van with a canoe set, would recommend that too.

DoNotDisturb · 27/09/2014 18:47

The lego movie stuff is fairly neutral and some quite girly (thinking of the ice cream van etc) but agree any lego is girl friendly. My dd loves lego star wars.

TalkinPeace · 27/09/2014 18:48

Lego City
the air traffic control
the harbour
the trains

luff lego
has 7 under bed boxes of the stuff

kelda · 27/09/2014 18:48

The lego city range is very good, and there are plenty of Creator sets that she might like - animals, houses.

We have a ton of Lego in this house and I don't really understand why Lego Friends is so hated. My girls really enjoy like Lego Friends, along with all their mainly generic Lego.

There has long been Lego aimed at boys - Star Wars, Ninjago, Chima (of course girls play with it too but from a marketing perspective it is aimed at boys) so why not Lego aimed at girls?

You can have 'girls' Lego and generic Lego, I wouldn't want to see any of it banned.

Katz · 27/09/2014 18:50

My DD has loads of Star Wars lego

notnowbernard · 27/09/2014 18:52

What Kelda said

All Lego is fab, wouldn't want any of it ditched !

Glad to hear the campervan is a hit, got it for my niece
