How much are you planning to spend this Christmas

caughtupinthismoment · 15/09/2014 15:15

You'll probably begrudge talking about christmas this early but nevermind.

I'm working out my lists of things to get for Christmas now so I can enjoy the run up with my DD as she'll be more aware this year so I'm excited to make it magical for her.

So how much is everyone estimating this year for everything.
I've spent about 100.00 for my daughter this year but it'll be split between her birthday aswell which is a few days after. I still need to get a few more things otherthan that she's done.

I've listed what I'm getting other family members and totted it up.
Mam about 70.00 this year things I know she'll love and the usual pjs slippers.

Sister 40-50 she's only asked for pjs but I've added a few extras in.

Sisters boyfriend about 15.00/20.00 usual smellied and such

Nephew about 45.00 got most his presents already just a couple more too get.

No food shop this year as I'm going to my Mother's for dinner so I plan on taking wine chocolates and pudding.

I also planned several activities for decemeber that I've accounted the cost for such as baking all the yummy christmassy treats mince pies cookies and such.
Taking DD to see santa this year she was scared last year so looking forward to that.
A trip into town to wonder around looking at the department stores annual display afterwards to a posh cafe for hotchocolate and a treat.

Far, far more than mentioned already. Far more.

But, it's Christmas so we don't care GrinGrinGrin

It's the highlight of the year. We are a BIG Christmas family!

99 sleeps to go!

elQuintoConyo · 17/09/2014 10:11

Oops, posted too soon!

About €70 on extra special food for the whole season (not just Christmas Day), it is just the three of us.

We don't do grottos, pantos, Polar Express trains etc as we live in Spain and they don't have anything like that. However, we have a log that shits presents and sweets when you
hit it with a stick, so we embrace that instead Grin

The Three Kings arrive on the night of the 5th Jan, so we go to Barcelona Zoo (cheap annual pass) and watch then watch the street parade for free Grin lashings of lovely fun!

We spend the money we can for Christmas, we buy what we can afford without getting into debt. I'm sure that's different for everyone.

Happydutchmummy · 17/09/2014 10:21

Friends presents around £50 in total

Extended family, dh has 13 nephews and nieces who all get £20 each, but the adults don't buy eachother presents. So that's £260

Food, we all go to mill's house and she cooks for her 6 kids, their partners and all of her grandkids (epic feast!). So we don't buy food although I normally bring a trifle, so around £5

My family don't really do Christmas so nothing

Our dc are still young and cheap. Dd (4) has said she wants a yoyo and ds isn't even 1 yet so will just get him a small token present so he has something to unwrap. May be spend a tenner in total o them. I'm probably going to get dh something around the £75 mark.

So roughly all in is £400 total spend but that's mainly because of giving all the kids £20 each. However dh's siblings (all 5 of them) will give £20 each to our two dc so we 'recoup' £200 in cash (which goes into a savings account for the dc although I'm sure that n a few years they'll start spending it)

Szeli · 18/09/2014 17:53

£500ish on 60 presents

£5 Friends kids
£10 Family kids
£20 parents
£10 grandparents
£50 DS/Each other
£20 Siblings

Managed to come in under budget on the kids this year, getting them all an outfit each in the H&M sales

Will also spend around £50 on extra booze/nibbles and may do a panto on santa train trip if i can afford it.

i've planned/bought 90% of the pressies already so i can spread the cost - we are utterley skint but I can't wind the list in much further

Loads!! I don't keep a running total and I don't think I want to know....

For parents/ILs probably £75, siblings £50, 2 nephews about £100. Friends kids £10 (4 or 5 each), DH £200. The DCs it varies, this year will be a lot as we're getting them new bikes as a main present.

And we spend a fortune on food, no expense is spared! Christmas is a lovely happy time for us and we do celebrate well

CeeloWeevil · 20/09/2014 09:14

I'm budgeting £600 this year - am saving £50 a month. i think that this will be plenty as I've got a really small family. this is the first time i've been organised enough to save each month so am quite excited about it!

Damnautocorrect · 20/09/2014 09:26

I save £10 a week all year, then start saving £20 extra per week from now, I also start buying presents from May to spread it all. So it probably ends up somewhere around £200 on oh, £200/£300 on ds and then my family get £50-£100 each x3

Methe · 20/09/2014 10:19

About 1500 more thank likely. £200 each for the kids, £300 other family. Dh and I usually spend a couple of hundred on each other. 200 on food and drink. 150 tree and associated decorations.

Ridiculous tbh.

ohtheholidays · 20/09/2014 10:43

Lots and Loads!!

Large family here on my side and we buy for the few on DH side as well, the children get presents for some of they're friends, some of our friends and we buy for all the teachers, helpers, head teachers at DC's schools. We also spend quite a bit on charity as well.

5DC we spend about £350 on each of the children.
DH and myself we probably spend around £200 on each other.
On both sets of parents between £40 and £50 each.
Dh's Nan,Auntie and Uncle, step Brothers and they're partners and children,my Brother and Sister in law,10 Great Nephews and Nieces,2 Nephews(still buy for them as they don't have children)6 Aunties and Uncles, our 2 oldest son's step Brother they're Father and his Wife that all come's to about £200 with 3 for 2 deals.
Never really worked out how much we spend on the school pressies before(so here goes)there's about 15 teachers, head teachers, helpers ect that will come to about £100.
Children's friends and our friends about £100.
Everyone gets a new outfit for Christmas and New Years Eve(so 7 outfits for each)probably averages about £30-£40 each per outfit.
Food and decorations about £200,we buy loads of treats but I'm good at food shopping so manage to keep it low.

That come's to £3,230 Shock wishing I hadn't worked it out now.

That doesn't include the things we do for charity or the traditional days out and treats in the run up to Christmas.

Maybe I should set myself a challenge this year to get it a bit lower.
Now understanding why all my family and friends call me Mrs Christmas Blush

Bedtime1 · 21/09/2014 02:32

Spent £600 on family and friends. £200 on my husband. I spend more normally as save up but we are moving so spending rest that saved on house accessories . Then we are having Christmas Day at ours ( crazy when I'm moving arghhh) then buffet so probably £250 on food and booze etc. then tree , decs, maybe £100. Need some new housey for moving but not Xmas related. Therefore probably about £1200

Bedtime1 · 21/09/2014 02:33

I meant ill get new house things separate to that

QuicheMama · 21/09/2014 06:36

As little as possible. I have been buying bargains through the year and don't do anything fancy for food. Probably about £150 all in, but I have not added everything up yet.
I am quite frugal but DH isn't and I sometimes find he has spent silly money alongside. Drives me potty!

fuzzpig · 21/09/2014 10:23

I've never counted and I probably never will Blush

I do spend a fair bit on my DC, they don't get loads of toys, no gadgets etc but for example lego is expensive! Then the little things add up, like top trumps in their stockings, that's another tenner etc.

JerseySpud · 21/09/2014 10:48

£150 each on my girls, £50 on DH (he spends same on me)

Then £20 per adult, £10 per child

Thats my budget but it doesnt mean i spend that.

Total is £540

princesscupcakemummyb · 22/09/2014 21:14

food £150
the children about £200 each on presents but family dont buy for them so we spoil

Showy · 22/09/2014 21:22

£20 for 7yo dd, same for 3yo ds. Don't buy for dh. We have a buy for DC only policy in my family and a £5 limit with dh's family. So not much tbh.

Biffabin · 25/09/2014 19:01

Showy every year at Christmas I think I'm going to be a bit more like you in the non-spending, non-consumer, real magic of Christmas stakes but I never manage it!

I think I am pretty good in that I only buy my dc one present each, then fc buys them a smaller present and a stocking, so I never get caught up in buying piles of stuff and I make sure that what I do get them is something they really want but I don't think I could ever only spend a total of £20 on each child Blush I have spent £20 or less on their main present several times (although it usually averages £40) but in total I don't think I could, by the time I've bought the boring stuff for the stockings (pjs, bubble bath, toothbrush, tube of sweets etc) I'm probably at that amount.

BerylThePeril44 · 25/09/2014 20:47

I'm stunned at the poster who spends a tenner on her two children - between them - and £75 on her partner!!!!! My budget is about £800. Two children and quite a large family. Try to cut down every year but love buying pressies for others and especially children.

EauPea · 26/09/2014 22:39

We have decided to cut back this year on extended family (who we haven't seen or spoken to since we delivered last years pressies).

I am adopting a rather mercenary approach, I will only buy gifts from stores whose gift vouchers I can buy in Morrisons (thereby saving money on fuel).
I will wait for boots advantage card event days, make the most of 3 for 2 toys deals.
Check Topcashback daily for deals.

I am planning to do the whole lot for no more than 1k, with a rather anal spreadshit of 'proper price' before 3 for 2's, cashback etc.

I have way too much time on my hands now Dd has started school, can you tell? Grin

Swagmama · 28/09/2014 11:29

£1500 on 3dds
£300 on a smart TV surprise for dd1&2
£100 on perfume and extras dd1&2
£300 on parents and 4 siblings
£200 each on dh and myself
£200 food
£100 on new decorations

I'll probably go a bit over on dds as I already have most of it in and we keep finding other stuff we want to get them. Same every year.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 28/09/2014 12:07

The kids bill should have been £1500 but I managed to save £600 with some very canny shopping! SO with other peoples pressies, trips to santa, and food bill around £1600 now. I am really pleased with that tbh. :) ho ho ho

FeelingTwitchery · 28/09/2014 14:08

I haven't bought anything yet.

I'll probably end up spending about £100 each on the DC. Main present roughly £40, new pjs, stocking presents.

Probably up to £10 on all other family members and friends, but we have lots to buy for - about 25 people, so that could be another £250.

We live overseas, and spend the largest amount of our budget on travel to visit family at Christmas. Flights and transfers for us all will be at least £500.

It will probably come in at over £1000 I've never actually added it all up before

RJnomore · 28/09/2014 18:01

Probably about £500 each on presents for the two girls. A similar amount on DH (and he will be around there for me)

£50 on my god daughter
£100 on my mil
Already spent £50 on dgmil who has sadly passed away this week
£30 on DHs uncles, another £100 on assorted friends children/children's friends
£80 on candles
£30 on a tree from idea
£60 on gifts for friends from the gym etc
£20 on secret santas
For the first time I have 12 staff -£60 for wine or chocs for them?
£5 on a personalised Xmas doormat Blush
£200 on Xmas eve activities (cinema, bowling, dinner and drinks out)
£100 on alcohol (champagne, wine, cases of beer)
£150 on food

Etc etc etc it goes on and on - I don't want to add it up!

RJnomore · 28/09/2014 18:02

Oh god I haven't even thought about the endless dinners and lunches out.

And dd1 is 15 on the 27th...
