My DD got a scooter for Christmas when she was 2. A three wheeled one so there are no balance issues. She loves it. I would recommend for your 2 year old. Diploma and playmobil are also very well played with.

LokiBear · 14/09/2014 18:45

Duplo not diploma. Stupid phone!

Ds1 (2) is getting a wooden garage and a teaset. I'm also getting him some little cars for his stocking.

For the 5 year old - lego city, playmobil, marble run, imaginext (castle, batcave etc).

For 2 year old - mini micro scooter, duplo, happy land (try eBay - the older style sets were much better value for money), Thomas the tank engine take n play, octonauts toys.

Lovelydiscusfish · 16/09/2014 06:52

I'm getting my two year old a scooter too! And a dolls' house (second hand), and the Bear Hunt board game, because she is obsessed with the story. Also a handbag shaped like a chicken - she just loves chickens, for some reason.
Her stocking will include castanets, bath toys, magic painting book, glove puppet, stickers (trains and dinosaurs), chocolate buttons and a Frozen dvd. Will try to source some small plastic dinosaurs too, to add to her already strong collection.
She has lots of enthusiasms at the moment, and it's hard to reflect all of them.
No ideas for a five year old as have no experience of the breed - your ideas so far sound great, though.

We have bought our son the habitat london bus but 2 maybe a bit old. We also collect the holztiger animals which are really lovely and our nearly 3 year old loves them. The duplo sets are really good and played with a lot by the nearly 3 year old - we have the animal sets - zoo and zoo vets and the circus one looks nice. There are some lovely castles or pirate ships around that look great.

2yo boy:

Duplo (the Thomas the Tank Engine megabloks are compatible with this)
dolly to go in the stroller
aquadoodle
magna doodle type thing (you know, a drawing board which they can erase)
peg boards
small two or three piece jigsaws
CDs
DVDs
themed clothes in whatever programme he is interested in like pyjamas, or towels or flannel or slippers, dressing gown, you get the gist!
Gadget the robot
Leap pad or Vtech toy tablets (the ones where they just press buttons)
Garage
Kitchen
Till, shopping basket, shopping trolley
Teaset, toaster, kettle
ELC Happyland things if he is into imaginative play - the school, house, fairground and rocket are really good
More imaginative bath toys - Tomy do some really nice ones
Anything that will be useful next year like a sandpit or wheelbarrow or maybe a swing or slide for the garden; arm bands or whatever for the pool
Scooter and accessories like a bell or lights or a helmet
Scheleich animals and the Melissa and Doug wooden stables or barn or whatever you like that folds together and you can carry it (they're brilliant) and tractor and maybe some fencing
Latches board is good for learning dexterity

And finally - a pet?!

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 16/09/2014 12:14

6yo boy

Imaginext castle plus some knights and maybe a family to rescue
Imaginext ship and submarine
Wooden blocks that come in a box that you build a castle out of - you can get them in normal wooden tones or painted in grey with windows, turrets etc
Playmobil - the dinosaur and pirate stuff is great, as is the school, camper van, school bus, holiday themed stuff
Micro scooter plus accessories like a light or bell
Lego
Craft stuff - Alex and Djeco do lovely things
A Paint Your Own plaster of paris figure in whatever interests him - you can get them on amazon and in hobbycraft
A board game - Conenect 4, frustration, Snakes and ladders, Guess who, junior monopoly, shut the box
Basic geomag
Marble run
Hexbugs
Audio books or anything for the car

I found a great stocking filler today which is going inn dd's stocking - 2 pounds gets you a plastic tube filled with lots of crappy little plastic animals, and the lid of the tube is the head of that animal! Quite monstrous really. I got dinosaurs, but I also saw sharks and jungle creatures. Dd will love it! Think there is a plastic tree in there, too.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 17/09/2014 07:43

My DS will be 2 in January. He will be getting:
Toot Toot Drivers stuff (got the construction site last Christmas and is obsessed with it!)
Some decent cars - either Playmobil 123 or Wow toys
Books
Duplo
Brio
Cars T Shirt
Some 2 piece jigsaws
The Melissa and Doug Latches Board (pricey but I know he'll get a lot of use out of it)
A dress up doll (probably the ELC one)
Some baking bits and pieces (he loves baking!)

I've also bought a hungry caterpillar photo album (3.99 in the Works) which I will fill with photos of his favourite things - family, pets, favourite places, his nursery key worker and so on.

Plus stocking fillers. Probably cars. Can you see a theme here? Grin

Lovelydiscusfish · 17/09/2014 21:47

Lettherebecupcakes, your photo album idea is lovely! There is a heart shaped multi-photo-frame in the catalogue gifts table thing they do at my work, that I would love to buy for dd for her room, to fill with photos of all the people she loves, but I fear dh might object (objectively, it is hideous, but I don't care, dd would love it!)
Meant to say, the crappy animal toy tube thing, that toddlers would love, which I mentioned in my last post, is available from Morrisons. Fill your boots, parents!
