Alternative to Christmas pudding

What does everyone have apart from Christmas pudding?

DH and I aren't keen and the kids normally have ice cream anyway. Normally a melt in the middle choc pud does us instead but fancy something different. Plus we are hosting this year too so wanted to have some options.

Eton mess, apple pie, crumble

Something light like macaroons, pavlova, a light sponge cake

Mum always makes an apple pie - it's just what we like best!

We always start a Rumptoft off about now, using layers of soft fruit, rather than plums. Ready at Christmas.
Beware, people aren't safe to drive after this pudding.

Apple Strudel with custard, cream and ice cream!
Sherry Trifle..gran's recipe...this always disappeared first!
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Pavlova
Cheesecake
Eton Mess...kids loved this!
Did mini servings of a mixture of the above on one plate that went down well with everyone who couldn't make their minds up on what the wanted!
No one seemed to like Christmas Pudding in our family! Grin

The year I had to bring dessert (and staying in an unknown kitchen cottage), I made a Christmas fridge pudding (BBC recipe) and pavlova bases before I left home, adding the melted white chocolate “custard” and whipping cream and adding berries and squashed chocolate flake to the meringue bases when at the cottage.

Dh sometimes does his special bread and butter pudding, which involves soaking the fruit in sherry overnight before making it up and soaking the bread in milky eggy stuff for a good few hours before baking - a real winter delight!

I think sticky toffee pudding would be great as well - but I am never organized enough.

And always have ice cream in the fridge. And a jelly made if you have guests. (Scoop ice cream into balls ahead of time - some afternoon that is peaceful and calm! - and refreeze in a tub, so you can just serve quickly on the day!)

We had M&S salted caramel melt-in-the-middle chocolate pudding last year- was lovely! Oh and trifle and yule log!

My mum used to get a pudding dish and mix chocolate ice cream and little chopped up bits of Turkish delight then freeze it. Was bloody lovely! I'll be doing that this year along with a lemon meringue. I can't stand Christmas pudding.

Last year I made a raspberry ripple cheesecake and one of those 'Millionaire's ice cream bombe' from the good food website. They went down a treat.
