In September ffs!
Thanks to the bargain thread and the fab posters on here, dd is done bar a few stocking fillers. I have spent about £130 but the value of the gifts is much higher, around £200, because I bought most things in the sale. She has one big gift, a wooden shop with pick and mix station and a till, and 10 other lovely things to open plus her stocking. She will get spoiled by family too. I have written them a list of things she likes as they always ask and I'd be surprised if anything is left on it come December because the wider family go crazy for Christmas on both sides. DD is 3. So, can someone please explain to me why I stood in my spare room looking at her unwrapped pile and worrying that 'it doesn't look much' this afternoon. After id bought a pair of skates on sale too! Seriously! What is wrong with me? I'm starting to worry that I have become obsessed! Please tell me I'm not alone!

Not alone at all, last year I got a load of bargins early on, then closer to Christmas also bought a lot from her list for other people...... There is way too much stuff in my house ATM! stop.. Just stop!!

MirandaWest · 13/09/2014 21:00

Stop. Seriously she has enough. She won't play with more things - they will just sit there. Feel glad you have bought everything Smile

o0 · 13/09/2014 21:10

Wrap it now. Seriously. It always looks so much more when wrapped.

Every year I think I haven't got that much and start to fret but when I wrap it on Christmas Eve it triples in size.

This year I'm going to wrap in October to stop The Twitch.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2014 21:47

You're not alone Grin but you are much much more organised than me.

I have bought some earrings for my DD and a pendant (silver with CZ) (and some other bits that I have stashed away but cannot remember)

DS is sort of easier, he likes cash (he saves) and vouchers.

I have gorgeous little boxes this year, just need tissue and ribbons.

LokiBear · 14/09/2014 08:48

Thank you and you are right. She has more than enough. Glad I'm not alone! Bloody twitch! Blush

Not alone no

I also use the bargin thread

So far have spent - about £150 on dd, and about £90 on two boys combined

Dd is younger and much easier to buy for!

Last year when I got everything out to wrap on Xmas eve I nearly had a Heart attack there was far too much!

Badvoc123 · 14/09/2014 08:56

I get this too :)
Dc are pretty much done now, aside from sticking bits.
I keep seeing things on the bargain thread and being very tempted but have so far resisted :)
It's ds2s b day next week and he is getting a bike and a scooter so he is just getting smaller things - lego mostly!

Nerf · 14/09/2014 09:01

It's hard isn't it? I've done all the family (except grandparents who get a hamper) and am deliberately not doing stockings as I suffer badly from the twitch!
Magazine subscriptions for all the dc this year as well so it's easy to feel the eeeek factor.

Notso · 14/09/2014 09:06

Just think quality not quantity. She could have a room full of toys but if they are not what she is into then she won't want to play with them, the novelty will wear off and they will just gather dust.

I did a carbootsale recently with a friend who spends £1000 on each of her three boys, she was selling toys and games that were still in boxes untouched and clothes with tags on. It was such a waste.

LokiBear · 14/09/2014 09:06

It is hard to resist when I see a bargain. I keep reminding myself that I have to leave stuff for other people to buy. DH thinks we should have another baby because I won't be able to go as overboard with 2. Little does he realise, I'll just start in May instead of August! Smile

I did this last year. got loads of stuff early thinking "yay! I spread the cost! go me!" then I went out and bought more anyway. Christmas day was crazy once everything else was added from other people. I was so embarrassed they had so much, DD (then 6) was a little brat which isn't like her and DS who was 2 was so overwhelmed he had loads of tantrums and sobbed in my arms at one point coz he wanted to play with it ALL but didn't know where to start.

Stop right now. sounds like loads to me! Smile

Badvoc123 · 14/09/2014 09:23

Oh, god, yes.
They get to to much definately.
Last week I donated 5 bin bags of toys, games and DVDs to the hosptial where ds2 had his op in July.
Some of them were from his b day last year - games he had never even played. DVDs still in the coolphane wrapping. Madness.

I have budgeted for twitching this year. Their most loved presents last year were all twitches!

LokiBear · 14/09/2014 09:58

I think I've nailed the main present. A wooden shop, with pick and mix stand, and loads of grocery type things to sell. They play shops at nursery and she absolutely loves it. I need to stop. I need to just re - read this thread when I get twitchy - it is keeping me strong!. I want her to enjoy the experience not get overwhelmed by it. I'm giving myself £20 max for the last couple of stocking bits and then I'm done. (I know stocking are usually just tat type presents or chocolate but both Grandparents insist on doing chocolate stocking so I tend to put smaller presents that I would have bought anyway in the stocking. So far she has a dressing up outfit, book, dvd and some bargainous hand puppets.) I'm sorry I keep posting my life story but everyone in re thinks I'm bonkers for thinking about Christmas in September and this thread is like anti-twitch therapy!

I too have got all of 18mo dd's presents bar a few stocking bits. I too am also on the bargain thread.

I twitched and bought a super cheap ninky nonk last week. The dolls house I bought months ago is now going to be for her birthday in March. She won't even know wtf Christmas is still this year but I just can't stop!

dollybean · 14/09/2014 10:16

You need to distract yourself with another christmas project- you are definitely not alone! Enjoy being smug about having done your shopping and move on to something else like baking, crafting ect. I'm actually considering making a knitted advent calendar to keep my thoughts away from shopping Grin

Patilla · 14/09/2014 10:24

I've put my foot down and decided the DC are having one main present from us plus small bits for stocking.

It's hard though, and as DD is younger she may end up with several smaller items on a theme packaged together.

I am, however, a big gift gifter to the kids outside of celebrations so may end up getting around the Twich by stocking up on items "for new years day" or "just because" knowing me!!!

Patilla · 14/09/2014 10:31

Aha! Just realised that doesn't allow for the DC to get each other a present!

I may be able to indulge the Twitch a little yet!

JerseySpud · 14/09/2014 11:02

I get the twitches in December usually but try and aim them towards other members of the family who i haven't bought for yet Grin

This year i am feeling really pleased with myself as to what i have got my girls already and total spent

misstiredbuthappy · 14/09/2014 18:44

I read a list out to my mum before of presants dd would like (and some ive seen an know she will like) and my mum was like what thats too much ! But ive already got half of them plus little bits ive seen on the bargain thread.

If I see something I think dd will like or some kind of christmas item for the house I cant resist.
