At that age, money :o

Failing that how about small chocolates, travel size toiletries, Christmas socks/ underpants (I have ordered socks for DM's stocking for 99p a pair from China off eBay) Sachets of hot chocolate, a nice decoration for the tree :)

18 year old girl: nail varnish - Barry M is good and cheap, or Mavala are really tiny bottles. Key ring? I am partial to one with my initial Grin. An alcohol miniature. A condom. Seeds for something to plant and grow. A handmade voucher for a nice deed - a lift, or a favourite dinner.

13 year old boy: yeah, I got nothing Grin

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 10/09/2014 09:46

I can use some of these for my teens!

13yo DS ( which my girls also like):

Polished semi precious stones (tiger's eye, earth magnets); keyring: chocs/wrapped sweets; posh stationary (geeky paperclips); little action figures; jokes (fly in a ice cube); temporary tattoos; wire/wooden puzzles; tiny code books; small bright torch; expanding flannel ...basically, have a look in joke shops, Paperchase, halloween displays, Hawkin's Bazaar, etc.

Every year I do this and every year I tell myself to do something simpler next year and keep these as gifts for Christmas day.

Just wondering if there is a way to make it simpler this year.

thatsn0tmyname · 10/09/2014 09:55

Maybe you could give them a choc with a letter in each day in icing? The letters spell out an advent present (or 25 letter description of a present) that they get on Xmas eve? I loved getting stockings as a teen but phased them out when I realised I'd rather merge the money spent into one decent present (which will probably be nearer £100 per child after 24 days).

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 10/09/2014 10:11

thatsn0t great idea! :)

Girl:

Earrings
Nail varnish
Lipstick
Eyeshadow
Chocolate - get a set of Green & Blacks miniatures and split them across a few days
Face pack
Buy a set of fragrance miniatures and put one of these in for 5 days throughout the advent period
False eyelashes
Compact mirror
Slipper socks
Funky tights
Mini make up brushes
This is nice - either as a Christmas Dec or you could split for 3 days of gifts www.superdrug.com/More-/Gifts-for-Her/Gifts-For-Her/Nivea-Mini-Treats-Bauble/p/297701#.VBAVsvldXNw
Hair bobbles
Eye mask

Boy:

Do the same with the chocolate and mini fragrances
Slipper socks
Mini nivea stuff - so shower gel, moisturiser, etc
Pretty much all of YeGods ideas! They're awesome!

I love that you still do this for your DC.

I normally get a tin of roses/heroes and put one in for each day with a note every other day (delivered by an elf) saying something like 'have friends round for party food', 'visit Santa', 'go out for a hot chocolate' etc.

Roll on December!

Leeds2 · 10/09/2014 18:56

Sachet of hot chocolate.

My DD likes those handbag packs of tissues, but ones with pictures on. Think last year was cats, but she has had union jacks.

Lip salve.

A funky biro.

Set of post it notes.

A magazine.

Comb.

False nails.

Hair slide/clip.

50p/£1/£2 coin.

Pack of cards.

FavaBeanPyramidScheme · 10/09/2014 20:02

Awesome suggestions yegods! I'm taking notes and my DS is only 9 months old Blush

everydayaschoolday · 10/09/2014 21:17

18YO woman: Free perfume samples from large department stores are perfect size for advent calendar pockets. Go in every few weeks and ask a different staff member each time Blush Grin.

Lovelydiscusfish · 10/09/2014 21:40

Wilkos have some quite funky little stationary bits (rubbers in the shape of little dice, etc).
Stud earrings - buy one of those sets with 3 or 4 pairs on, and split it? For delayed gratification, give a stud a day, so the pairs have to be waited for?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2014 21:48

My DS will be 15 DD will be 12.6 at Christmas.

I have a gorgeous Advent Tree with a little cupboard, each door houses a decoration for the tree.
I used to put a chocolate coin each.
Now I add two £1 coins on the Saturday.

(Just picturing my DS finding a condom in his Advent presents Rootypig Grin )

I'd add - a small tree decoaration - lots of places sell single ones, you could buy maybe 6 nice ones.

DD loves Costa cards (pre-paid, I put £10-£20 on hers)

I think girls are easier for little things, I'm thinking along the lines of the beauty brand advent calenders and looking for tiny sizes of hair/make-up/skin care things

clangermum · 10/09/2014 21:50

Beads/charms to string on a necklace/bracelet given on the 1st

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2014 21:50

And if you buy some of the magazines that have beauty samples on them- Octobers In Style has a 50ml bottle of L'Occitane shampoo and 50ml conditioner on the cover.
