So, what exactly is this all about? Is it just a ridiculous Americanism? Where do you get an elf from, or will any old elf do?

Half considering it this year...

Surely this elf idea puts more pressure on parents at an already pressurised time. Glad my kids are too old for it (but at 14 and 12, not too old for a stocking!)

Marks place as too early to contemplate now but will look in to more detail when time.

Thanks Tanya, I don't have a sainsburys near enough to go on the offchance iyswim, and I couldn't find them on their online store. I am googling furiously though and am on pintrest too. Thanks for all your suggestions.x

DD 14 really wants me to do this for DS2 and 3 aged 3 and 2.
I am notoriously crap at this kind of thing. The tooth fairy was often delayed by many nights Hmm or I had to 'pretend' the £2 had fallen out from under the pillow.
Also all the elves are creepy looking

Marking place

there are some cute elves made from bits of felt and pine cones on pintrest for a diy project. Failing the elf on a shelf thing they could perhaps be spotted in various places with little advent gifts. I like the idea of DS being able to cuddle one but am worried he would get attached and then be very upset when the elf had to go back. It's a mine field!

My grandson is 2 and was to busy with christmas presents to know the elf had gone but we flicked through photos the other day and he recognised him by name :), your welcome pumpkinsmummy Pinterest will give you loads of ideas xx

At nearly 4 my DS has a frighteningly good memory and cannot be fooled. He knows there are no magic elves really but plays along as it's fun Grin

My two take them to bed on Christmas Eve and then I sneak them out of their beds. In the general whirl of the morning they tend not to notice. My eldest knows they aren't real but loves the fun.

This year will be our 4th Year with Elf. The girls loves it.

The first 2 years I made a blog for Elf. Last year we moved 2 weeks before Xmas so Elf's adventures were more about which box he was hiding in! Zero time to be blogging about him either.

I may attempt another blog this year and now the girls are abit older do some more elaborate things with him.
Pinterest is great for ideas.

Mmm, think I may have to do it this year - my general level of Christmas excitement has grown exponentially now the kids are old enough to get it!
