That Pine Tree Cake Tin Nigella Uses

It features in her Christmas book.

Where can I get one that isn't £37?

I just resent paying that much for something I will probably use once a year if that.

Apparently it's 'nordic', don't know if there is an official name.

Home bargains does a large rubber tree shaped cake tin? Less than £5

MamaPain · 07/09/2014 17:58

Does it look like this or is it more one big tree?

The exact one Nigella uses is made by Nordicware and £37 is about right but despite searching exhaustively I couldn't find a cheaper/promotional price, so I did end up buying it.
It's extremely well made so I fully expect it to last my lifetime, plus it's so detailed the cake you unveil looks fantastic.
If you wanted to try the recipe you could use any bundt/ring tin (which I've seen in TK Maxx for about £7) then decide if it's delicious enough to warrant the one-time expenditure!

I bought one on amazon last year. It was a bit cheaper but not much. I unveil it many times all through December, for Christmas fairs etc so it is slowly earning its keep.

I would happily use a normal bundt tin and jazz it up though. A cake in a ring is always fab too.

Seems like I'm going to have to buy it aren't I. I shouldn't be so tight tbh, I'm not much of a cook and should probably just be grateful this will give me some impressive results.

forcooksake/montserrat can I just ask, is it ever difficult to get the cake out? Does it stick at all?

I've used it several times and the cake has never stuck, not even a bit. I have variously used 'cake release' (a Wilton branded product available at Lakeland) or on another occasion softened butter.
Whatever you use, do it with a pastry brush to get the greasing agent into all the nooks and crannies. I sit down with a cup of tea and do it before I start mixing. Or hand it to nearby friend/child to do Wink

Is this the Vanilla Cake that she does?
I made one last year, I didn't buy a Tree Tin, I used a ring mould Bundt tin (much cheaper and I can use it all year)

The actual cake uses something like 6 eggs and a ton of butter. When it's fresh, it's lovely and light, vanilla~ey, yummy. I had with chocolate sauce and cream.

Next day, it tasted like a cold, flabby pancake Sad

Sugarshack do it for £27 delivered here I ordered it last week. Says out of stock but worth giving them a call.
