Anyone fancy a luxury larder challenge?

If we started on Monday we could do twelve projects prior to December. I'm thinking flavoured sprits, cakes, puddings, mincemeat etc.

Does anyone fancy joining me?

Disclaimer: I'm a poncetastic lunatic who can't wait until 25th Sept

I'd be happy to post the recipes I'll be doing.

Have I missed much so far?!

HOw long would it keep??

I really want to make glitter jam but am worried about edible glitters dissolving. I may use gold leaf instead but it is pricey! Does anybody have any success stories with using other types of glitter in jam??

Newbie on this thread but I've nearly finished present buying after being inspired by the bargains thread and need a distraction to avoid going over budget!
Also planning to do a few homemade gifts.
Just wanted to de-lurk to canvas opinion on how early people make their Christmas cake?
I love to give the fruit a cook soaking for a week or so to fit as much alcohol in as possible. Was wondering, for example, whether an extended soaking could make the cake even more alcohol filled or whether the fruit will have reached alcohol carrying capacity after my usual week?

Wow, some great ideas. Glad I've foudn this thread before it gets too near Christmas.

I've still got mincemeat from last year, and a huge Xmas pudding from last year to use, so not sure if I'll make anymore for this year, but probably will. Definitely will be doing the cake, not quite sure when however.

IssyStark · 30/09/2014 12:46

Already done a redcurrant chutney for presents (had a bumper crop this year and there's only so much redcurrant jelly you can use, and still had stuff left from 2013). Looking forward to tasting it in a couple of months...

We always used to make our Christmas cake and pudding on one day in October half term, we always had to plan it as we had to spend the whole day steaming the puddings!
I now make it anytime between now and the end of October, depends on when I get organised. The fruit will only soak up so much booze, if you want more sprinkle some over the cooked cake at regular intervals up to Christmas.

cowbiscuits74 · 30/09/2014 21:41

yep, soaking fruit for my christmas cakes already ....

Hi
I added this thread to my watch list when it came out, and want to make the blackberry and apple gin. What do you mix it in? As in, I have some 250ml bottles for it, but it seems I decant it into them at the end. The original gin bottle won't be big enough. One recipe suggests kilner jars for preserves. i have plenty of sterile jam jars, but they are all about 300 mls.

Practically it seems more feasible to tip it into a large clean jug and stir it before decanting, but that won't be sterile.

How do people who have made it do it?
TIA
