No hoot
M&s used to do a frozen parsnip and gruyere bake. Sliced and layered like a Dauphinoise. Try making that, it's gorgeous.

EatDessertFirst · 02/09/2014 17:34

I've got eight Christmas cakes to make in the first two weeks of September. Menu for Christmas day is already done. Present shopping last week of November as I refuse to shop in December except for stocking fillers.

dawndonnaagain · 02/09/2014 17:39

Christmas shopping done apart from food. I even have crackers, wrapping paper and cards. I shall start writing cards when they go back to school next week.

BreadForBrains · 02/09/2014 17:43

Yab a bit mental imo, but other people are much more anal organised than us.
The dc go back to school tomorrow and dp took them 2 hours ago to do the uniform shop. He has managed to buy everything except a matching water bottle for one of the lunchboxes. We enjoy living on the edge Wink
In a similar fashion, dp will be doing the Christmas food shopping on Christmas eve. We tend to buy stuff as and when we need it rather than hoard it for months on end.

Fixerupperz · 02/09/2014 18:06

Yup the Roses are reallly yummy Grin

I am going to make a christmas cupboard and buy every week Smile

We're going to have a heatwave?!

Idontseeanysontarans · 02/09/2014 18:13

I'm not doing my cards as early as usual this year. I did mine at the start of September last year and 3 people on the list died before Christmas Sad (with a small )
Might make a cake this year, not sure yet. I found an unopened bought cake from Asda at the back of the cupboard in January with a use by date of 2010. We moved house in 2012 so this cake had moved with us and been ignored for 2 Christmases!
It was still lovely though..

LineRunner · 02/09/2014 18:17

I only my son's school blazer yesterday.

He goes back tomorrow.

LineRunner · 02/09/2014 18:17

Only ordered ffs.

I'm not very well....

Humansatnav · 02/09/2014 18:19

I started my " Hamper " list this week.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 02/09/2014 18:25

I tend to start picking up bits and bobs with the weekly shop from October. Have all DD1 and DD2's Christmas done except for a few stocking fillers. DS has very little so far and only one more DN to do. The adults are getting mostly vouchers so that's easy.

Doobledootch · 02/09/2014 18:36

Sorry I didn't realise it was December.

Evening all,
we have had a report asking for this to be moved to the Christmas topic, and we're going to comply... stand by.

jamtoast12 · 02/09/2014 20:46

I've sorted our food....I've paid the balance on our meal in a restaurant complete with wine order! Each week I stock up on an extra item for the Xmas period e.g. Bottles of fizzy drink, alcohol, non alcohol and snack type food such as crackers, popcorn, etc etc only a couple of pound a week which means Xmas shop is same cost as normal shop

NormHonal · 02/09/2014 20:48

My sprouts have been on for three months already .

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 02/09/2014 23:08

NormHonal eww guess you like them underdone preens

GiveMeCheesecake · 02/09/2014 23:22

loveulotslikejellytots Grin

My mum probably put the carrots on in January! And the turkey has probably been cooking since Easter.

I bought a bargain copy of Good Food's 101 Christmas Dishes from eBay the other day. And I had a little nose earlier and I'm tempted to bake a Christmas cake for my parents (I hate Christmas cake but they love it)

In October I start adding Christmas bits to the food shop. I write up a list on Word and cross it out as I go Blush then all I have to do it buy the fresh stuff on the 23rd using my saved up Nectar points.

curiousgeorgie · 02/09/2014 23:27

Did this start in AIBU?? You're very brave Wink

I wish I could start on lovely plans but I don't even know where I'll be! Sad

Heels99 · 03/09/2014 16:21

But why would you buy cadbury roses now to eat in 3 months time? They are available in large quantities throughout the festive season, I don't understand the stockpiling

0pheliaBalls · 03/09/2014 17:42

I bought three bottles of Co-op's version of Bailey's two weeks ago to put away because it was only £3.50. One bottle remains Blush
I have a Finest pud and a jar of cranberry sauce left over from last year - does that count?! I always buy an M&S Christmas cake when they're half price, which is usually the last week in September. Ditto their tins of shortbread. I love knowing they're in the cupboard on the 'Christmas shelf' - makes me feel all excited Grin

0pheliaBalls · 03/09/2014 17:43

Heels because it's easier to buy one thing a week now than to have to fork out for all of it in one go the week before Christmas. Also prices tend to go up closer to the time.

ClashCityRocker · 03/09/2014 20:37

Oh I was soooo organised last year....i bought a case of prosecco at a very reasonable price on offer, a couple of bottles of baileys, a case of white and a crate of cider. Then had to rush around on Christmas Eve to replace it all Blush hic.

I did have a moment in tescos earlier as they have started putting there Xmas stuff out - cakes, puddings, mince pies.

I have no self control.
