I'm confused about what everyone says about Santa on here

So, my understanding is that children write to FC, he gets the list, and his elves make or buy some of the items and then leave them on the end of the bed in or next to the stocking.
On here, everyone seems to do stockings with underpants, little bits from Hawkins etx - so what is the point of The List?

Ooh I'm going against the grain here... But we say it's the Christmas Game to put out a treat for Santa and play the game that Santa brings all the presents. DD can choose to play or not, she still gets presents. She can write a letter or just tell us what she would like. She has a stocking and presents under the tree. She loves Christmas and thinks it's so magical still :)

Nice though Vicki.
In our house, the dc write letters, Santa picks one or two large items and makes up with a few silly things.
We get the dc a present each from us which we give to them, as do other relatives. Stockings on our bed first thing. Presents after lunch at 3pm.

no santa here.. when they got old enough to understand, a well meaning MIL said Santa will leave presents in your room if you are sleeping - and he always peeks closely to make sure you are really asleep.

Cue hysteria... and me and DH having to swear it was us really and not santa (the big scary man with the beard).

Stockings from FC ( generally 10 little items ) and one present on bed that Mum and Dad wouldn't choose .
The stockings are always topped with a small torch and stockings have to opened by torchlight. ...in the hope that the children would go back to sleep.
DC are all grown ups now but the girls still have stockings . Son has a shoebox full of useful little items.

Everything we buy comes from Santa including main, tree and stocking presents. family gifts are from the giver. The kids are 9&7 and have never questioned what we get them!

Nerf · 02/09/2014 22:13

Oooh what's a tree present?
I always thought they were hidden in the branches on Boxing Day but suspect I'm wrong.
Love the torch.
Sad about the scary Santa!

All Ds (7) presents come from Santa or the family friend gifts...Last year was first time he asked why I don't buy him anything . In panic I said I had to send Santa money to help pay for materials for toys.

I do think everyone does everything differently

jamtoast12 · 03/09/2014 07:10

For us:

Main present is biggest gift so say a bike or similar
Tree presents are medium size and under the tree! These are generally stuff they've seen on adverts etc E.g dolls, games, large crafts sets, DVDs, fancy dress clothes, pjs etc. basically extra presents.
Stockings are basically cheap tat or what can fit in a large knitted sock so usually choc coins, nail polish, rolled magazine, stick on ear rings, felt tip pens etc etc

All of this comes from Santa for us.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 03/09/2014 07:15

All presents come from the people who buy them. Small stocking with unusual gifts from Father Christmas, not Santa. Grin

All presents are from Santa, apart from the friends/family ones under the tree which slowly gather there during December. Santa fills the empty pillowcase at some point during the night, and leaves it at the bottom of the bed-so you can put your feet down and hear it crackle and know he has been!

MrsPnut · 03/09/2014 16:29

In our house Father Christmas brings the stockings during the night and all other gifts come from the person on the label. Stocking gifts are usually small boxes of lego, stationary, stickers, sweets etc.

attheendoftheday · 03/09/2014 19:56

In our house Father Christmas brings a stocking of small things (but I avoid basic necessities like pants) which he puts on the end of the bed, then leaves one big (and so far joint) present downstairs - this has been a toy kitchen and a farm so far, will be a wooden castle this year. Other presents (some big and some small) are from us and other relatives.

PumpkinsMummy · 05/09/2014 22:11

Father Chrsitmas brings all the presents for DS nearly 4. He even delivers a bloody mahoosive pile to DGP's house. All other gifts are from the giver and get thank you cards. He gets a stocking with a chocolate reindeer/santa/snowman and some little bits that I think he will like like crayons, stickers, the infamous finger lights and small toy cars/trains etc. It's not a large stocking so maybe under 10 presents and I like to keep the value under about £15.

He has a christmas sack from Santa downstairs (ooh eerr) and anything too big under the tree. He is told any time he asks for a toy throughout the year to ask Santa at christmas time. I explain that he won't get everything as Santa has to give all the boys and girls the same so he will get a few things he really wants and a few surprises. Obviously he has very little idea what I'm on about at the moment though!

For the people that want the credit, is that what your parents did?

Actually I suppose everyone, do you do it any different to what your parents did with you and if so why?

MamaPain · 06/09/2014 15:49

Father Christmas:

Small Stocking on the bedroom door and sack of presents by the fire place (poor Father Christmas can't carry them all the way up our steep stairs). There is usually one main present and then some smaller bits like small lego sets, books, barbies.

Then some presents from us under the tree, this will include one big present.

They also get presents from other family/friends.

PumpkinsMummy · 08/09/2014 11:03

Just realised that reads like he gets no toys through the year, he does, it's just the big things he waits for.

CarpetBagger · 08/09/2014 11:53

For the people that want the credit, is that what your parents did?

Not at all, there were just presents there, my parents would never be so petty Wink as to need and want adulation. They also were not materialistic and would never want to sort of make such a big deal of it. I think they attached more importance to other things than the present they brought.

Most presents are from FC here. Childhood lasts such a short time, they have a life times to know where the present came from.

Stocking this year is: Little torch that shines pictures on wall, Dobble, some balloons to shape into animals, then little bits and bobs, chocolates, satsumas and so on.

From us, a book, some craft things, and from the Big Man, Frozen stuff, games etc.
