DS1(12) appeared to know at 9 and out and out knew at 10.
DD1(10) I think may know but I am not sure. I just don't want her being the only child in school to believe.
Luckily DD2 is still small!

The magic will never go, I love Christmas but I just wonder when it is time to declare the worlds biggest secret?!?

We were told I school by our teacher I our lastyearof primary.

DC1 knew when he was 7 but kept up the pretence because he didn't want to hurt our feelings and was afraid the present count would go down. He was 8 when I was attempting to tell him but he explained it was unnecessary.

He and we kept up the pretence until DC 2 was 7.

I wouldn't let any child go into the juniors not knowing because other kids will tease mercilessly.

My dd was almost 9 when she asked outright, so I confirmed that no he wasn't real. It was lovely really as she immediately said "so it was you all along who bought all my presents wow you spent all your own money thank you" . Thinking we were done I was in her db room when a little voice then went "muuuum does that mean the easter bunny and the tooth fairy aren't real either?".....
Bless her she was crushed but for about another year it was like we'd never had the conversation! But now at 10 she's sorted, its lovely whilst the magic lasts.

I think it depends on school and area. In dds school, she's in year 4, there isn't one child in her class who doesn't believe and she is almost 9. Several of these have older siblings who still believe. I think most kids can still be convinced to a higher age.

Half the time I think it's the parents who give it up because they find it too much hassle and it's easier for them if the kids know :( not in all cases, but certainly with a few parents I know. The minute they got the chance to tell, they did without even trying to keep it going longer. It's sad really as it spoils it for everyone else.

My 10 year old still believes, I really wanted to tell her this year but I don't want her world to cave in, I keep dropping hints in hope she will realise ( does that sound mean, should I just let her believe?). Now she's getting older it would be nice to discus what I can buy her a little bit more rather than her write a list and expect to get what she has asked for, I would also like to reduce the piles of tat she gets.

My 6YO said last night 'it's you and daddy really isn't it?' :(

slushie · 01/09/2014 21:09

My 7yo still believes.
I'll be surprised if we make it to this Christmas with her still believing though, she's in a mixed year group class so I think the older ones may let slip.
