stocking fillers for older boys (10yo)

Clr2014 · 25/08/2014 12:22

I pride myself in being an excellent stocking buyer! However, last year I had a last minute panic on Christmas eve that Ds was not up to standard and I rushed into town and spent a silly amount on things i could have got cheaper if i had shopped smarter earlier- rubiks cube etc.

Can you share what have been hits with your boys? Happy to spend up to £10 on a few decent items like story cds or card game etc Have got him a cool torch and he'll get some quirky boxers or socks in there too... He's not quite at the lynx stage yet.

Look forward to your suggestions.

TIA

I always cheat and get a pre filled stocking for £20 from Hawkins bizarre. They do have some cool quirky stocking ideas and are online if you don't have a shop local to you.

NorwaySpruce · 25/08/2014 12:28

We do things like:

Mini Maglite torch

iTunes card

Cartridge pen with coloured cartridges

Emergency foil blankets & survival tin stuff

Pot of slime/goo (the magnetic one this year)

Coca cola in a Christmas can or glass bottle

Minecraft stuff.

I don't do a stocking but do get some small bits to add to his presents.

Last year I did a watch, slipper socks, astronaut food, books, cinema and bowling vouchers.

StepMum2b · 25/08/2014 19:43

Watching closely! We (I) have a nine and eleven year old by Christmas to buy for. Always get my stocking ideas off here but slowly running out of ideas.

Titsalinabumsquash · 25/08/2014 19:47

I always get mine (10 and 8 this year!)

A tiny metal bottle of coke with proper bottle tops (they don't get coke throughout the year really)

A tiny box of roses or miniature heroes or similar

Some silly toys. Like windup things to race, silly putty, fart noise makers, primatial jokes.

A bottle of bubble bath (matey atm but will swap to a more grow up brand when they hit their teens)

Little laser pens

This year I'll do a £10 voucher for their favourite milkshake shop in town.

Pants
Socks
Toothbrush

I love doing stockings too. I do my sisters children for her. My nephew will be 10 in a couple of weeks and is really difficult to buy for. Girls of any age are easy.

Sweets - my nephew would be over the moon if his stocking was filled with sweets.

He will be getting:

Paint by numbers - £3 from sports direct.

Joke/magic book.

A meccano type vehicle.

Lynx set - deodorant and shower gel. Normally available in December, but wait til it goes down to £3. It will!!!

Drinks bottle.

Lego - I read on another thread that the daily mail will be doing the free Lego in September.

Yoyo..

Mini football.

BreadForBrains · 25/08/2014 21:40

Anything to do with minecraft. HMM/Game are quite useful for stocking fillers.

Clr2014 · 25/08/2014 22:10

Great ideas- keep them coming!

Will def get astronaut food and a yoyo...

BreadForBrains · 25/08/2014 22:36

I've just had a look at aliexpress, never heard of it before. It looks great. I have 2 MC obsessed dds so I will be ordering from them. Not now, but in plenty of time for Christmas! I can't do any Christmas purchasing until November at the earliest, but I like to have the ideas ready Smile

Clr2014 · 25/08/2014 23:20

Bread forbrains, if you want to order from aliexpress nov may be cutting it too fine...

aubreye · 28/08/2014 18:34

This is what I'm getting;
Guitar picks
Rubik's cube
New football

That's all I've got....

tigger32 · 28/08/2014 18:47

Some great ideas on here, my ds1 will be 11 this Christmas and I've been thinking about what stocking fillers to get him.
Where do you get the coke glass/bottles from?

MTWTFSS · 28/08/2014 19:23

Shower radio and USB gadgets

dibdobs · 30/08/2014 10:19

So far probably giving my nearly 10 yr old (have 3 boys) a crystal mining set from amazon, pin art thing that leaves impression of your hand etc, laser torch pen, fruity radox shower gel (they love those) and thinking of a pack of water balloons but remember the mess from last time lol

dibdobs · 30/08/2014 10:23

Oh and minecraft poster!

Artandco · 30/08/2014 10:34

Did nephews last year when he was 9.

  • Lindt reindeer
  • swimming goggles
  • stablio mini pen set
  • watercolour paints
  • watercolour mini canvas x3
  • hair wax ( he has decided he needs to style hair!)
  • mini alarm clock

Not the cheapest stocking, but was basically all stuff he actually needed and useful with no 1 time use stuff so worth it IMO as didn't need it brought over the next few months

DaftMaul · 30/08/2014 21:07

Ds will be 13 this christmas. His stocking may include some of the following:

I always try to include a DVD/new game to keep them occupied for a few hours.

Chocolate sprouts from m and s went down well last year.
Stationary stuff for school - sharpeners, pens, pencils
Boxers/underwear in footie team colours
New toothbrush
Hand warmers
Goalie gloves
Joke/comedy book
Novel

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 30/08/2014 21:16

Aaarrgh! Stockings. My children's favourite part of Christmas and still insist they have to have them. They are now 19 and 22 - and I really have run out of ideas.

Aubreye - how on earth do you get a football to fit in a stocking? We use ski socks, which are quite large and stretchy, but no way would a football fit Confused

DaftMaul · 30/08/2014 21:40

An uninflated football may fit in ours.

Annuals are often included too, even though they don't fit. They are stood next to the stocking.

RJnomore · 30/08/2014 21:45

I love doing stockings.

Come to the Christmas bargains thread, lots of fab ideas on there. My dd2 will be 10 by Xmas, I've got her finger lights, a bike wheel light, a balloon helicopter, mouldable balloon thing all from amazon and all less than £1 delivered.

Some of the other stuff is quite girl specific (nail varnish, bracelet, lip balm ) but every year we have the Avon Xmas bubble bath, a lush bath bomb (you can get father Xmas shaped ones etc so not too girls) a magic face cloth, chocolate coins and a Lindt Santa.

dibdobs · 31/08/2014 08:08

Just wondering do any of you wrap the items you put in the stockings? Just thinking if i did that id have a bit more peace and quiet first thing lol

NickNackNooToYou · 31/08/2014 08:41

I bought my DS's (8 &9) those finger light things MN raved about last year. On Christmas Day they were not bothered, they've just rediscovered them and are obsessed with them.

smellyfishead · 31/08/2014 08:45

this year so far mine have (8+10ds)(4dd)

fun snaps (throw on the ground and they bang/explode)
glass coke bottle for the one that likes coke, with his name on it
