My ds loves reading so I'm going to get he quite a few books for Christmas. I usually get him approx ten books at Christmas.

Some books he has loved in the past and currently are...

Any David Walliams
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Roald Dahl books
Eoin Colfer books
Horrid Henry
Dirty Bertie

He has read nearly all the books from the above so I'm kinda stuck for ideas now.

Would Harry Potter be too much at 8 ?

DS recently turned 8 has enjoyed reading HP, but we haven't got all of them yet.

At the moment he's going through the Heroes of Olympus series, which he absolutely loves.

The first HP is the easiest to read so he probably would like that. My ds also like Captain Underpants

DS (7 yrs old) is reading all the beast quest books with absolute fascination (like 1 book a day!). We have found most of them in the library.
He also likes the horrible stories series.

My ds nearly 9 loves reading too - some suggestions from his bookshelf

Tom Gates series
Percy Jackson books
The Hobbit
anything by Roald Dahl
anything by David Walliams
How to train your dragon series

The Gauntlet by Ronald Welch.

It's less well known, but it was my favourite at that age I still read it for comfort every now and then.

Also the Green Knowe series by Lucy M Boston is great.

Oh yes has he not had Hiccup/how to Train Your Dragon series? Fantastic stuff. If you've missed them, eleven books to keep him going! Better than HP in my opinion.

DS wouldn't read Harry Potter independently but is loving it with us.

You haven't mentioned Narnia or the Hobbit - DS 8 loves both of these.

DS2 loves the Percy Jackson, Beast Quest, Roald Dahl and David Walliams also loves all the minecraft books, Peter Pan and Captain Underpants.

He's a bit too young for HP, but he's not keen on Scary stuff atm.
