What do you do between Christmas and new year?

Every year we say "we'll do something lovely between Xmas and new year" but then no-one can agree on anything or think of anything to do so we do nothing!

It's the one thing I'm dreading about Christmas. I have a dh, ds (8) and ds (3) and not much cash!

Just wondering if I can steal something.

We sometimes do a little UK city break. Hotels are dirt cheap, and it's nice to get away.

Although, with DH's family being abroad, we are often travelling to or from the ILs.

26th DDs birthday
27th this year is horse racing meet with PILs
28 th contine to entertain ils
Rest hopefully we will both be off work, see a few more relatives locally, go for a family swim, cinema trip, visit sales, get a long walk or even hike in, etc. I'd love at least 1 day to just Slump, but unlikely with dd (she turns 9 but has energy to burn combined with ADHD so never sits still, but at least all sports training will be off).

At some stage between 28th Dec and about 6th Jan, my aunt will host dinner for her siblings, spouses, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grand nephews in my grandparents old home. So that will be at least 20 around the table.

We're never stuck for things to do.

Work.

We only close for the bank holidays and aren't allowed to take leave over Christmas or new year. It's usually very busy.

I work in a GP surgery. Business as usual - or busier because we've been closed for 2 days.

Some great ideas here, I've already arranged a few things!

I understand that some people say that their kids get enough to keep them entertained but mine need to run off energy, doesn't matter how many toys they get, still need a run everyday - boys are like dogs!

Chill out and relax. Lots of walks and fresh air (not sure it's going to be the same this year without a dog).

Love Boxing Day almost more than Christmas Day. Get up when we wake up, bubble and squeak brunch, used to take dogs out to the coast or more locally as they got older. Back home and chill out, watch a film or read a festive book. No shopping at all.
