I cannot stop thinking about the most Christmassy thing somebody I know has done this year

They took 2 homeless people to stay with them over the holiday period until accommodation can be sorted out for them (vetted by SS - not just invited off the streets).

It warms the cockles of my heart that there are people out there who do this kind of thing.

I have no idea of this person's faith or motivation to do this; I do know that they are quite altruistic and involved in all sorts of activities in the community.

There is no way I would contemplate this myself in my current circumstances btw (apart from that DH would have a fit Grin), but it restores my faith in humankind when I hear about true acts of kindness.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Xmas Smile

Wow what a nice thing to do. I would definitely consider this and so would my mum. I often think about homelessness at Christmas. We were in temp accommodation last Christmas so were fortunate to have a roof over our heads.

Yes, I wish I knew more about how she came by them IYKWIM?

I will ask her when I next see her - she's an elderly lady living on her own as well. Just lovely.

Hope you have a v settled Christmas this year, dreams Xmas Smile

I did a Christmassy thing - I found 2 bags of sales bargains from last Xmas/jan in huge loft when I went to wrap this years stuff and hunted out a contact for a woman's refuge and gifted them.

PacificDingbat · 25/12/2013 15:28

That's lovely, QOD - I think these things should be trumpeted about more often and more loudly Xmas Smile

Thank you very much pacific. Me and the dc moved into our house to keep in April so gratefully very settled this Christmas. Grin

Oh that is just lovely of them!.

I am not religious, but I like Christmas to be a season of slowing down and contemplating one's blessings and doing nice stuff for others.
'Tis was it's all about IMO.

I save all the duplicate & excess birthday / Eid gifts my dc get to wrap and regift to childrens' wards & charities. My dc receive too many generous gifts so sharing it amongst children in need is a good thing for them to learn at a young age.

PacificDingbat · 25/12/2013 19:02

That what we do with duplicate/unwanted/excessive presents too, raisah.

To me it has something almost biblical to it, this taking in of strangers to your home at Christmas time without any expectation of a 'reward'.

My dear Dad died 10 years ago so every year, since his death, I do something nice with the money that I would have spent on a Christmas present for him. I just feel like it keeps his memory living on. This year I gave the money to a local food bank so somebody, in difficult times, will eat because of him.

PacificDingbat · 25/12/2013 19:46

timidviper, what a thoughtful way to do something in your father's memory. I am sure you still feel his loss keenly and that he would love the gesture {hugs}
