Stocking fillers. I don't understand!

Can somebody explain. People call things like DVDs and books stocking fillers. But how do you fit those things into a standard size stocking? Or do you have big stockings? For the size of my children's stockings it has to be things like Lego mini figure packet, hair stuff, that sort of thing. DVDs and books are amongst the main presents?!

We use nylon tights which fit quite big presents and dvds and books easily go in. stockings are a main event for us and adults get them too. Any smallish prezzies up to about £30 can go in ours so the stockings are quite ££ and we love them!

I put small things that fit into a stocking - socks, hair slides, necklace, bracelet, make up, sweets, chocolate coins and a Lego friends watch for the 4 year old.

i dont like buy tat that wont be used or will be broken in an hour just to put in a stocking. id rarther spend a bit more knowing thell be used.

i also dont like putting in socks opants.. as to me there not presents..i buy them through out the year when they ar eneeded. which make it quite hard.

a book like to attach to his books when he reads in bed. (£1)

chocolate stars (£1)
jelly bean candy cane.(£1)
fart keyring (£2) graqnted this was quite tatty)
a mine craft plush creeper (£8)

so there not expensive..bar the plush but they have all been used and will last, though i find boys alot harder, girls i could quite easly find non tat things.

last year santa just put present under thier tree.. which included dvds, chacter umbrella. games.

makes more sense to me to spend a bit extra for better qualty stuff then tat that will be forgotton about or broken really easly.

socks and pants on the other hand are essential in a stocking in our house!

We had pillow cases when I was a child our DDs had these to start with and now have a Christmas bag about the size of a pillow case. They are not full to the top though but all the DDs are in their 20's now and me and DH have a pillow case each. When they were children they always had a blown up balloon or big ball in the top so it looked full. FC only bought the stocking presents and no single item was over £5

We dont do stockings, tried one year but wasnt keen so didnt bother again. We do smaller presents of books, dvds, chocolate that i would class as stocking fillers but steer clear of clothes as they are an essential item that i just buy as and when needed rather than buy to wrap up.
