In a nice dress or similar I mean, not as in 'come as a penguin'?

Just wondering really...bit of a mix bag in our extended family.

i know what you meant but i take offence as what if we want to dress up as mary on a camel? will we be villified??

KrabbyPatty · 20/12/2013 22:02

We don't.

I'll be in my jeans and Uggs and then my perfect Carole Middleton-esque next door neighbour will pop over with something for the kids. She'll be all blow dried and sporting a little dress from Reiss with a couple of bits of major bling, and I will momentarily think I should be more like her.

Rosvita · 20/12/2013 23:05

I just popped to Next to buy 'a tunic' suitable for Xmas day to wear with leggings to feel a bit smart/dressy - £120 later I came out with a tunic (different to the one I envisaged), blingy ballet pumps and leggings to go with, a slutty miniskirt to go with Xmas jumper for nye party (don't ask) and a new jumper. said to myself I can try it all on at home and return what I don't want to keep- problem is several booty shaking trying on episodes in the mirror later I want to keep it all- argh! And to know it will all be half price by this time next week...

A teeny bit, same as many others, a nice wool dress or tunic. Have Christmas tree earrings too thanks to DD (9)….

Idespair · 20/12/2013 23:10

I shall wear pjs. Even when family visit.

CrazyOldCatLady · 21/12/2013 14:08

I'll just be dragging on whatever I can find in the wardrobe; I can't be bothered buying something new because I'm planning on losing a lot of weight as soon as we finish eating the stupid large stash of christmas goodies starting in january.

DD has a sparkly pink pinafore and white poloneck so will be very luffly, and DS has a Rudolf top to match his grandfather's Rudolf jumper so he'll be as cute as always.

We generally go for smart but comfy. And all of my family who are coming over will bring their slippers to change into when they get here so they'll be comfy too Smile

80sMum · 21/12/2013 14:13

I sometimes dash upstairs and change just before lunch. No point in putting anything nice on in the morning; it would probably end up splashed in goose fat or something similar! Even then, I only change into slightly newer jeans and a clean top. Christmas Day is not a dress up day in the 80s household.

I will probably stay in PJ's most of the day, so will the dd's, dh will wear what he always wears (jeans and a jumper), we don't have anyone over for Christmas day so it doesn't really matter what we wear, would rather feel comfy Smile.

jammiedonut · 21/12/2013 20:51

Christmas jumper, maternity jeans (not pregnant but they've got good stretch!) and slippers. Will have clean hair and some make up butno more than any other family occasion. As long as everyone is smiling in the photos I couldn't give a toss what I'm wearing.
DM is dressing as a Xmas tree and poor dsdad is an elf. He did not get a choice and thinks it's incredibly unfair that I'm getting away with just a silly jumper!

HoHolepew · 21/12/2013 21:04

Nope. I would if I was going to someone elses house.
I'll wear tracky bottoms leisure pants and my new Rudolph sequined sweatshirt. I always wear a full face of slap anyway.

lottieandmia · 21/12/2013 21:06

We only dress up if we're going out for Christmas lunch which we will do this year but mostly don't.

mumeeee · 21/12/2013 22:06

We are going out for Christmas dinner so yes I'll wear a nice dress or a sparkly top and leggings.

LaFataTurchina · 21/12/2013 22:24

A bit, we dress a bit more nicely than we do everyday but in a nice new jumper way rather than a party dress and heels way.

In previous years I've worn a day dress and a cardi but been cold so this year I'm going to wear high waist jeans and my new Scandinavin style jumper.

TikkaTurkey · 21/12/2013 23:27

No, I love Christmas but I don't usually 'dress up.' We don't go anywhere, we stay at home and have family Christmas so I have no need to really.
If I was going visiting people, then yes I probably would, but seeing as we stay at home Christmas Day I just wear my normal clothes!
