I'm thinking now I've gone a tiny bit overboard. However, DS, aged three, is getting a small token gift from my best friend, a book from his grandparents, and that is absolutely it, nothing else from anyone else, so I think that may have some bearing on how much some people buy their children.
He is getting a stocking mainly full of tat, but good tat - bouncy ball, funny balloon, wriggly worm, bubbles, colouring pencils etc. Also useful essentials that he'd get/need anyway, like pants, bubble bath, toothbrush. Also a teddy, and a book. And a satsuma and gold chocolate coins.
Santa gives four main gifts along the want, need, wear, read lines.
Want: some cleaning equipment he wants! (Kiddo sized dustpan and brush, mop).
Need: DIY tools
Wear: tshirt
Read: book (well, duh).
Then DH and I have bought him:
Some dinosaurs, some Playmobil stuff, a truck, some cars, playdoh, a book, and a doll. Oh and some pyjamas.
It looks like quite a lot wrapped up (those Playmobil boxes are huge) but it's all stuff I think helps creative play, or educational, inspiring his reading, or clothes that we'd have to buy at some stage anyway.
