My LO loves his scooter but keeps trying to steal other kids bikes in the park so I thought a bike for Christmas would be an ideal gift.... But which one?!
MN please help me decide Grin

We hit ds a strider bike at that age it's brilliant because it's so light with adjustable seat and handle bars, it's been going strong for a year and a half and he's a wizz on it.

Ooo not hit- got!

ElaClaw · 15/12/2013 19:28

As well as a Strider a Puky LRM is a small balance bike :)

thank you guys!! exactly what is needed - something light & small enough... will research where to get the Strider or Puky LRM.

Balance bikes look great. I wish I'd known about them when my older DD was little. DD2 is 18 mths and I was thinking if one for her birthday next year. But isn't the idea that you get a normal bike so that you can pop the pedals back on when they're ready.

ElaClaw · 16/12/2013 22:03

Most normal bikes are too big for a small child to use as a balance bike.

We got DS this one in the summer. He was about 20m but it was a bit big for him so we have left it in the shed to give him for Christmas. Think it will be just the right size for it now :)

In my opinion 18 m is a bit young for a balance bike. My dd1 got one for her 2nd birthday but was not overly interested until she was around 2 1/2.
It was used by my then 3 yr old ds instead. Wa got a likeabike, wooden and that was 11 years ago. It was worth every penny and is still being used by dd3.
All the kids were on a twowheeler pedal bike without stabilisers. It is worth paying for a decent one. Likeabike is still around and usually pucky is wuite good, however the wooden ones are lighter and easier to carry.

As I said on the other htread My very tiny 19 month old was big enough for the Puky LRM. He was less than 80cm tall at the time. IIRC Puky have a size guide on their website.

The wooden ones tend to be bigger. I'm impressed madwoman - 11 years ago! You must have been right at the forefront of the balance bike revolution :)

We've bought a Puky for DS's Xmas ( nearly 2 yrs). We went for the Puky as it was lighter than the wooden ones and has a low cross bar which should make it easier for DD to get one and off.

Luggage16 · 17/12/2013 09:10

the puky bikes are excellent! totally recommended!

ihearttc · 17/12/2013 09:13

We have a Puky LRM and its been brilliant-highly recommend it. We got it when DS2 was just 2 but was tiny...about 81 cm from memory and it fitted him fine.

Tiny bike was perfect for our little one at that age. It's very robust.
