Can you over-feed the cake?

I've just been giving the cake its last feed before icing it next week. Never mind pricking with a skewer and drizzling sherry over, I have a fat syringe with a long hollow needle, and inject the sherry directly into the cake!

As I was injecting away just now, the cake seemed to expand slightly, and then all over the cake sherry squirted out of every crack and pinprick. (Very funny Grin. I just had to repeat it several times!)

Have I overdone it a bit? Or is this A Good Thing, and I should get another feed in before icing?

I think you may have overfed it a little

I would put it on a cooling rack, unwrapped, and see if any seeps out of the bottom. It may need a few days to dry out

It will end up like a Christmas pudding if you over feed it. Let it dry out and I wouldn't feed it any more! You might need to eat it with a spoon but it will taste lovely though.

Frankly unless the raisins are floating, it's fine! Enjoy the cake but don't be lighting the candles when you have a piece in your hand…..

Let it dry out? Are ye mad, woman! Grin

I have overfed a cake before. One year I was very organised and the cake was iced and completely ready before the end of term. The way I knew that I had over fed the cake was that when we finally cut into it a few weeks later all the marzipan had dissolved!

Seriously delicious!
