I'm incredibly busy at work and home, and don't really know if I'm coming or going, but I've just realised I've done the stupidest thing.

I had an hour's train journey after a meeting, so bought my cards and wrote them on the train. In a fit of efficiency, I then went straight to the post office, bought stamps, and stuck them on so I wouldn't lose them. But then I posted the fecking cards - WITHOUT ADDRESSES!

So I've wasted 60 cards and £30 of stamps. And I need to write them all again. I could cry Sad

Grin sorry.

Sod the cards and donate to charity.

Theknacktoflying · 13/12/2013 20:13

Oh, no !

Can you not just do the really important ones. ..?

JeanSeberg · 13/12/2013 20:14

God that's just the kind of thing I'd do when stressed. Can you afford to do again?

zipzap · 13/12/2013 20:15

Ring the post office or sorting office and explain what you've done - they might spot a batch of them go through and you might be able to reclaim them...

Got to be worth a go!

AgentProvocateur · 13/12/2013 20:22

It was the main post office in glasgow city centre. Imagine the busiest post office you've ever been in, then double it. I think they're long lost.

I'll need to re-send for the people I don't see often, but would like to keep in touch with, and the oldies. The rest can get a Facebook message. I can't believe I did that, and I can't believe it took me two days to realise I'd done it.

Oh fuck Xmas Grin

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 13/12/2013 20:37

Sorry, that wasn't much help, what a nightmare. Just send a group email round explaining your cock-up. No one will mind I'm sure :)

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 13/12/2013 20:38

TWO DAYS?! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin
Really sorry, but that is a little bit amusing Xmas Wink

AgentProvocateur · 13/12/2013 22:48

Yes, I've been feeling smug and organised since Wednesday. It was only tonight when I saw my address book lying out that I had the horrible realisation... Red wine's making me feel better about it Wink

There's a thread on here with loads of posters complaining about how much they hate Christmas cards.
Some of your recipients are bound to be on here so actually, you've done them a favour Grin

Gangie · 13/12/2013 23:00

Contact the local sorting office? There's a chance they are laying around somewhere, worth a phone call Grin

zipzap · 13/12/2013 23:02

DOn't know if it is the same now but we once had to do a tour of a post office sorting office for uni.

Sacks of post are all emptied into the sorting machines which can sort out your letters by size, turn them around so they all have the addresses facing the right way round, then it makes sure there is the right sort of stamp on and can read the postcode to send it whizzing off in the right direction to sort it all out.

If there was something that couldn't be read or where the postage was wrong, it was whizzed off for people to deal with it by hand... So there could well be a room in the glasgow sorting office that has a pile with all or most of your christmas cards in. I really reckon that it's worth at least a phone call to them - imagine how amazing it would be if you could even retrieve half of them!

ZoeZoeZoe · 14/12/2013 01:27

We do a charity donation in lieu of cards for most people anyway; could you not email people and explain you were doing this which could still be cheaper than re-doing cards? (your call whether you said you had already!)

HollyBollyBooBoo · 14/12/2013 07:15

If it's of any comfort you are not alone I did exactly the same thing about a week ago. Refuse to re send them so have emailed/Facebook people to let them know what a muppet I was and the reason why they won't be getting a card from me!

www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/what-happens-if-you-cant-deliver-something

Read this. They will store undeliverable mail for up to 4 months.

AgentProvocateur · 14/12/2013 10:01

Thanks, all. I'll give them a call on Monday and see of they can be retrieved. I suspect it would be quicker and easier to buy new ones today, though, so I might just do that.

And, HollyBollyBooBoo, it is a comfort to know I'm not the only daft person who's done this!
