Father Christmas BUSTED!

I told DD off earlier today for something quite minor, and reminded her that Father Christmas is watching. She replied with "He's not real. The mums give the presents". She's four! I asked who told her that and she said it was a boy in year 1 at school. I then told her he was playing a trick on her, which she accepted (although still sceptical) . Should I have just given up the whole Santa act?

My DS2 aged 5 has said a few times to da1 aged 7 that Santa isn't real. I silently witness the interchange. Mine know that I but the pressures though, Santa is like special Dhl.

I think if it was a very clear I don't believe then I would probably at this stage just say that's up to them but others do.

Really? You want to give it up because of some boy at school being mean to her?

I guess if you dont mind her knowing and want to stop it, yeah give it up Confused

Mine worked it out yesterday, they are 6 and 4. I'm not going to lie to them so yes I have "given up" on Santa but we never made a huge deal of it anyway. Their enthusiasm for Christmas remains undimmed :)

Thanks for your responses! ZeVite I haven't given up yet, I was just wondering if it's worth tricking her any more when it seems that she's going to find out sooner than expected. That being said, my own mum still insists that Santa is real so perhaps it's me and the kid in year 1 who are wrong! (My bank account seems to agree with me though...)

Tell her she's right, mums do have to bring the presents. Well they do for all the naughty children like yr1 boys who tell 4 year olds Santa doesn't exist who Santa doesn't visit, otherwise they wouldn't get anything Xmas Grin

No, don't ever give the game up, in fact I lie more every year and dd is 9 and still believes. I even think we may get next year too.
Kids grow up too fast these days and the innocence of belief is lovely.
Personally, I think going into secondary age they should know though and may end up telling dd.
Mine have asked loads of leading questions over the years as 2 are grown up now, I just used to lie to them too. Grin

I rather think that at at 4 years old she wants to believe which is why she accepted your excuse. I would stick with it.

I am just vague. What do you think? Who knows, it's magic. This is my favourite because it means I don't have to explain anything - just magic. They seem to unconditionally believe in magic.
