No one's sending Christmas cards anymore!

I just think it's so sad. We donate to many charities throughout the year but also enjoy the joy of writing traditional handwritten heartfelt messages to friends in Christmas cards. Now it seems most can write one generic email on facebook to all. I wish all the charities well and donate all year round to seven different charities as well as volunteer. Many local charities would benefit more from your time than your money and true festive charity spirit should be giving your time not opting out of christmas cards. If you can't afford stamps, fair enough - if you can, put a bit of time into charity and still send your friends a christmas card (ducks prepared for the onslaught!)

Oh, I love cards. So far we have 4 3 of which are to my 8 year old But I've not written mine yet so I'm assuming, clearly naively, that nor has anyone else Grin

I guess it's all about doing what we enjoy - I must have spent at least six hours so far writing cards (still more to do Grin), I will spend an hour walking round delivering them. But I enjoy it - compare that to having to sit and watch something like X-Factor, now that would be my idea of hell Grin.

I love Christmas cards and they make very useful decorations!

I am another disliker. I don't think there is a point unless you're writing a specific message to someone or it's handmade. Otherwise all it is is a piece of card with someone else's picture and message on where you wrote someone else's name and yours. It may well show you 'remembered' someone but frankly if someone I knew could only manage to remember me rather than actually have a meaningful interaction with me (whether that's meeting or emailing or even a little letter inside the card) then I would not see the point in us 'staying in contact' at all.

I have loved the couple years I sent cards to online friends, where I wrote long letters and gave little gifts and stuff as well. Most of those people I never met in real life so it was a nice chance to exchange something physical.

This year all I did was cards for the kids I work with, which I made.

But then it is and should be each to their own - if you love cards then fine, but don't assume because you do all the rest of us should join in to please you. It's a hassle if you don't enjoy it and if we're not your friends so you're not missing out on a bit of card from us, why should you care what we do?

I've never sent any for the last 15 years. When I realised that there was no joy in this annual chore, the sheer waste of money on something that would be disposed of in a couple of weeks and the fact that they clutter up the house influenced my decision.
I donate to CHAS instead.
No one has even noticed.

I guess that's the thing Ragwort- we all have different ideas of what fun is. Christmas does involve a lot of activities, some we enjoy more than others. Christmas Cooking, shopping, wrapping gifts, putting up the tree, buying the food, could all be considered chores and none of them are strictly necessary- we would survive without any of these things.
I count the cards as one of these things, and one aspect that I really enjoy. Like others I sit with a glass of wine, a really nice pen, a list, a pile of christmas stamps and put a nice personal message into each of them.
I don't really like the shopping , but I love the wrapping. Some things are more fun than others.
Posting messages on Facebook would be too impersonal for me- but then I don't have a Facebook account.
We now have 19 cards all strung up with little elf pegs- they form part of our christmas decorations.
