I'm having THAT panic...the presents don't look much!

Ok,so I've got all ds presents.30 in total including a giant trike (he's 14) yet because most of the presents are smallish size wise (dvds,games etc) it doesn't look like much when you consider the trike is far too big to go under or near the tree.

Stop me panic buying too much

No golddigger the name comes from years back when I was a member of the dark side and mn invaded us LOL

Ds won't care how many presents there are.Nor does cost or anything matter to him-he's severely autistic.

It's just me and I think it'll look a bit pants

There are some years, especially when someone is a teenager, that the presents can look a small lot, when actually, generally, more money has been spent than normal.

Trip trap, I'm sure he will have plenty and he will love the trike, we got dd2 one for her birthday ( she also has ASD ), I find with my dd's if they get too much smaller things then they end up not touching the main thing they asked for as they are overwhelmed ( though dd2 often finds the cheapest of items more fun than the main presents so often ends up playing with something that was bought from the pound shop and ignoring the big items ). I'm sure he will love what you have got him and as long as you have bought items he has asked for or shown interest in he will be happy, I have tried to get things for the dd's that will feed there obsessions ( mainly pokemon but dd2 also loves music ) so I know they will be happy with what I have bought them.

I think there is something seriously wrong if you don't think 30 presents is enough?

Ignore those doubts, its is enough, probably too much. Just stop buying stuff!. Change your amazon password to something unmemorable.
And save our money.

It will be fab. He will love his trike, be happy with one of the cheap pressies and forget about the rest if my DC are anything to go by.

Bulk it out with satsumas, socks, toiletries and a chocolate stocking.

And I don't think anyone should eyebrow raise over the 30 presents thing. it could be books cheap dvds for all you know. My DS will have a good pile of things to open, but I can't afford to buy him a laptop!

Children and teens with autism can have trouble with the co-ordination required for a two wheeler. A three wheeler provides more stability.

My 14 yo DS will have a feeble present pile because......
at his request he wants:

money
Game Voucher
Game microsoft points

So that's 3 small money wallets.
Then I have to bulk it out. DH has bought him some techy things

DD, on the other hand, has about a millionty

They have stocking gifts and Christmas Eve Hampers before DS gets out the Worlds Smallest Violin

Don't buy more stuff just for the size factor!

How about putting smaller things into bigger boxes with scrunched up newspaper, popcorn or whatever? It would have the added bonus of disguising the present (he won't be able to guess what it is from the shape) and take longer to unwrap...

I'm very much in favour of a box-in-a-box-in-a-box for small things.

Erm, DD will be having one present. It's really bizarre to me why people would buy so many. Don't your DC forget about the first one by the time they get to the fifth or 10th o e. I'd find upsetting that the gifts get abandoned. Do your DC appreciate the effort?

He won't forget.He often has random wants though!

I may just get a large chocolate thing to bump it up.Haven't done his stocking yet and that will largely be practical things like (sonic)pants and socks.

It's just that 'thing' where it looks less than before even when it isn't.

But I may buy myself a present or two.Keep planning to get a new bag but in reality struggle to think of anything I really want!

30 wow.....you're going to make me panic.

My DCs (6&7) have about 10 things to open including stocking fillers......some are small and expensive some much cheaper, like sweets.

Must not buy more!

Go on 4od and watch the programme that was on this evening presented by myleene klass about Xmas presents.. Made me feel guilty for buying so much when they were saying the children will be grateful to have A PRESENT to unwrap unlike other years when they had nothing!

30 presents is plenty op!

I think it's normal for the present pile to start to look smaller as they get older as well. It's all OK.

locketjuice that made me feel guilty too especially as I was wrapping ds's mountain of presents at the time :( and especially as I used to work with children for whom that was a reality :( ( yes I did get them a little something).

I echo the idea of getting something for yourself, so go and get that bag!

Well you know you're being ridiculous and I know you're being ridiculous but I totally understand because I had a similar panic re ds (7) so I admit I've bought him a couple of books to bulk it out but he adores a book so it's money well spent I keep telling myself

I agree re the kids who get nothing though, just too horrible, I've donated quite a few gifts this year to the local collection but it just feels like a drop in the ocean.

Incan see some people were sold on the American movies Huge Christmas trees, piles of presents. I'd like to know if your DC remember the next year what they got.

Dig all you like,I can afford to buy what I buy him and I love buying presents,even the bizarre random ones!We don't have family etc and due to being with him every second when he's not at school and playing with him every second,the only things that make Christmas any different from a normal day is the presents (and opening and playing with NEW things),the turkey and the music we listen to and films we watch.

Present piles always look smaller as the DC get older - my youngest is getting big (sized) toys whereas my teen is getting mainly dvds & video games, so they look a bit duff in comparison. My solution is that I have one big mixed up pile around the tree so the DC have the search through for their presents & nobody can tell who's pile is the biggest - and I disguise my teen's small things by putting them in big boxes - it's more fun that way anyway

Although I have to say 30 does sound like a big pile anyway - are you including tiny stocking stuff in the 30?

Trip I wasn't having a dig btw - I was just genuinely saying with 30 you don't need to worry! I buy what many would probably consider too much for my DC at Christmas but I don't get into debt to do it and I don't buy tat - it's all stuff they will use (mostly!). And I don't buy them stuff all year apart from necessities - any other toys/games they want, they save up for. So Christmas is our one big blow out and I love it
